🤔 Why are voters being asked to consider a Proposition 2½ tax override in the Special Election on Monday, June 8?
The costs to operate the Medfield Public Schools are increasing faster than the revenue available to support them. This “structural deficit” is similar to the fiscal challenges facing other school districts throughout Massachusetts.
The growing budget gap is due in large part to several major expenses that have been increasing at significantly higher rates than the overall budget:
⬆️ Staff salaries (contractual obligations in collective bargaining agreements with union employees)
⬆️ Student transportation (in-district and out-of-district)
⬆️ Utilities (gas, electricity, telephone, water, sewer)
🗳️ The Special Election will be held on Monday, June 8, with polls open from 6 am to 8 pm at the Council on Aging Center.

The final budget allocation for the 2026-27 school year will be determined by a Special Election on Monday, June 8.
1️⃣ $46.22 million: The budget request approved by the Medfield School Committee earlier this month assumes a 3.64% increase over the current school year budget. It includes a limited number of reductions to offset rising costs. This budget will be adopted only if the override is approved.
2️⃣ $44.50 million: This budget represents an increase over this year of only 1.8%. If the override is defeated, the School Committee will have to revise the budget request with additional reductions in teaching positions, increasing class sizes district-wide, and other potential programmatic impacts.
🗳️ Polls will be open on Monday, June 8, from 6 am to 8 pm, at the Council on Aging Center.

In order for the $1.5 million override to take effect, it must be approved by Medfield voters TWICE:

2️⃣ Special Election:
🗳️ Ballot voting
🗓️ Monday, June 8 – one week from today!
🕕 Polls open 6 am - 8 pm
