The last day of August always presents mixed feelings. We say our “good-byes” and “see you laters” to our Pre K students! We know they are ready for the next chapter and all that lies ahead. But we are sad to see them leave. We’ve celebrated many milestones over the years, offered hugs when needed, gave them the opportunities to create, build and explore, and then we get to stand back and watch them soar! We are truly blessed being able to watch children and families grow and evolve over their time at BY.
We are truly excited to see what new school year brings and we say “Welcome to BY” to our new students and “Welcome back to our returning student” We look forward to what’s ahead and watching the children blossom!!
What an amazing privilege it is to be part of so many children and families lives! Thank you to our amazing teachers who work so hard everyday, your passion and care shine through!

🍋💛 $1,004 FOR THE MEDFIELD FOOD CUPBOARD! 💛🍋

We are SO excited to share that our annual Beginning Years Lemonade Stand raised an incredible $1,004 for the Medfield Food Cupboard! 🎉

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who stopped by, bought a cup of lemonade, donated, shared our stand, and supported this special cause. Your generosity truly makes a difference in our community. 💛

And an extra-special shoutout to our amazing preschool teachers and students! 🍋👏 They worked so hard to make this fundraiser a success—from serving lemonade to welcoming our supporters and learning what it means to give back. We couldn’t be prouder of them!

Our children LOVE being part of this tradition, and we LOVE watching them experience the joy of helping others. There is something so special about seeing little hands and big hearts come together to make a meaningful impact right here in our community. 💚

NEW: Free Child Car Seat Safety Checks at Medfield Fire

The Medfield Fire Department now has a certified National Child Passenger Safety Technician on staff — the national standard for car seat installation, issued through Safe Kids Worldwide using the NHTSA curriculum.

That means we’re now offering free car seat inspections to Medfield families.

Why it matters: National data consistently shows that a majority of car seats are installed or used incorrectly. Common problems include a loose installation, harness straps that are too loose or routed at the wrong height, a chest clip in the wrong place, or a seat that’s simply the wrong stage for the child. A correctly installed seat dramatically reduces the risk of serious injury in a crash. A check takes about 20–30 minutes, and you’ll leave knowing how to do it yourself next time.

Car seats change as your child grows. This is the piece parents most often miss:

• Rear-facing — Infants and toddlers stay rear-facing as long as possible, until they hit the top height or weight limit of the seat. This is the safest position for a young child’s head, neck, and spine.

• Forward-facing with a harness — Once they outgrow rear-facing limits, they move to a forward-facing seat with a 5-point harness and top tether.

• Booster seat — After outgrowing the harness limits, a booster positions the vehicle’s seat belt correctly across the child’s body.

• Seat belt alone — Only when the belt fits right: lap belt low across the hips, shoulder belt across the chest and shoulder, back against the seat, knees bending at the seat edge.

• Back seat — Children should ride in the back seat through age 13.

Every child and every vehicle is different — that’s what the check is for.

Call To schedule: Call the Medfield Fire Department non-emergency line at 508-359-2323 and ask to set up a car seat appointment. Appointments are by request so we can be sure a certified technician is on duty. Please do not call 911 for this.

Annual event: We’ll also hold a dedicated car seat check event at least once a year, alongside our annual Open House — a good option if you’d rather stop by without an appointment.

What to bring: Your car seat, the seat’s instruction manual, and your vehicle owner’s manual if you have them. Please bring your child, too — the check works best when we can fit the harness and seat to the child who’ll actually be riding in it.
