We couldn’t be more proud of our teacher of the year!! We are so lucky to have Mr. Ayers as our High School history, EPF, and African American Study teacher!! Thank you for everything you for for staff and students!

OUR TEACHERS ROCK! This week is Teacher Appreciation Week and over the course of the week, we’re highlighting the amazing teachers who we named earlier this school year as our Teachers of the Year! Next up is Randy Ayers of The Georgetown School!

Mr. Ayers is a high school social studies teacher and has been an educator for 13 years. He said he loves teaching because “it allows me to connect with people in a way most other people do not. I get to see people have the light bulb moments in real time when they finally understand a new concept or make a connection they had not made before with a topic in class.”

What does it mean to be teacher of the year for Georgetown?

“For me it is a humbling experience, out of the fantastic teachers in my building, they choose me for this year's Teacher of the Year Award. I feel as if now I have to meet the mark of excellence they have kindly given me for the year! I believe in my staff, they believe in me, so I need to make the moves that show their excellence as well.”

He added: “I have participated in the first few meetings for the Teacher of the Year Academy; I am trying my best to become a leader in my building that has a close relationship with my staff and students to bridge a gap in what I view as a need for leadership that has a very close relationship with all stakeholders in a student's life outside of the normal avenues.”
