Celebrating its 10th year in business, Mechanicsville, Virginia's Mako Music School is the best place in the Central Virginia area for music lessons of any kind. Unlike the vast majority of music lesson providers, Mako uses an individualized approach. All students are different, so all methods to teach them should be as well. In the last 10 years, Mako has produced professional musicians, music te
achers, successful entrees into music high schools, all district players, and more importantly a love of music in hundreds of students. Using their unique approaches of individualization and treating music as a language, we have had an unparalleled retention and success rate. All ages: from age 4 to age 80
All levels: Mako has taught beginners to band kids, to gigging musicians, to adult beginners...any body who has the desire has the ability to learn music. All styles: Well actually one style: Music. Instruments taught: Guitar, Bass, Piano, Banjo, Mandolin, Ukulele, Harmonica, Violin, Drums, Music Theory, multiple instrument playing, songwriting, recording techniques. Mako Music was started and is run by Matt Koon. Matt has played music professionally for 30 years on Guitar, Bass, Piano, Keyboard, banjo in several styles. and has been one of the areas most sought after and in demand music teachers for 20 years. Matt recently has created music heard by 10’s of millions of listeners on podcasts for athletes, comedians, wrestlers, and more. His music has also been heard recently on the TNT and TBS networks as well as AXS TV. Matt was entirely self-taught until 12 years ago when he attended 5 time grammy award winner Victor Wooten's Bass/Nature Camp. Through that life changing experience, Matt has had several lessons and group lessons with Victor Wooten as well as many other world class players through their association with the camp. Matt was once called by victor “the best student in the history of the camp.” And has been brought on to teach on a couple of occasions.
5 years ago matt decided to start making music again, and has now been heard in several wrestling companies (AEW, ROH, Impact) as well as several podcasts including WellReds Corey Ryan Forrester and the Sports Illustrated podcast of the year: “something to wrestle with Bruce Prichard.”
Matt and his teachers (all former students) love Teaching, and have energy and ability, and confidence to teach any willing student what they want to know. Over the last ten years they have proved over and over again that Mako is the place to be.
