Dear faithful followers,
It's been 4 years of Swanging Bradge. Over a thousand days of batting at the lowest hanging fruit, and also at times pulling from that which is at the deepest parts of myself. My contributors and I have covered some of the hard hitting topics, with our trademarked brand of surrealist, irreverent, and occasionally earnest attempts at humor. While some of us were legitimately in tears when that cheeto-dust covered ba****ck took the White House last fall, we tried our best to bring light to it in order to keep ourselves going. At the end of each semester when finals were running us all into the ground, we tried to make as many dick-jokes and heretical jabs as we could to dig ourselves out. When we had a feeling that you, dear alternative/dweeb/party-animal/conflicted Messiah students might be going through a time that is disorienting and/or depressing, we tried to be there with you, with equally confusing and macabre images, words, and videos.
When the world stops making sense, we've felt compelled to combat fire with fire in order to bring some relief. The world is seemingly burning, and instead of turning away, we brought the gasoline of delinquency. Evil, obscenity, hatred, alienation, loneliness. These things can't be your master if you're too busy making them your comedic servants. Sarah Silverman once said that "comedy brings light to darkness, and it's impossible for darkness to live where there's light." At the end of the day I think that's what we've been trying to do here. Just trying to shine a MS-Paint drawn flashlight into the void and show that there's no boogyman waiting for us, and if there is one he's smaller than we first thought.
All things go, and Swanging Bradge is no different. I'm too old, too tired, and maybe too caught up in that same confusion and dread I was trying to face to keep this going. To all you readers, thanks for hanging in there. I'd say I love you, but that's probably not true. I can say though that Bradge has come from somewhere like love, and I hope it's felt like that for you. I hope you all keep pouring inflammable attitudes and words on the kindling of delicate situations and topics in whatever ways you can, especially when you feel like you shouldn't. The devil cannot stand mockery.
Bye,
SB
