Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to those that donated to Crawford Gives for First District PTO! The generosity of our community is so heart warming. The PTO has ear-marked this money for mulch for the playground.

🚌 SCHOOL BUS SAFETY SERIES
Parent Tip #5: Help Us Reinforce Safe Riding Habits

As we wrap up the parent portion of our School Bus Safety Series, we’re asking for your help with two of the most important rules your children hear from their bus drivers every day.

And trust us—there are probably no words a school bus driver says more often than:

“Sit down.”
“Stay in your seat.”
“Don’t change seats.”

There’s an important reason for that. ❤️

🚌 STAY SEATED — THE SEAT HELPS KEEP YOUR CHILD SAFE

School bus seats are specifically designed to help protect students through a safety system called compartmentalization. The high, padded seats create protective spaces for students.

But for that protection to work as intended, students need to be sitting properly in their seats and facing forward.

If a child is changing seats, standing in the aisle, leaning into the aisle, or has their body outside the protection of the seat, a sudden stop or accident could cause them to be thrown forward.

Parents, this is where you can really help us!

🌅 In the morning, remind them: “Stay in your seat today.”

🏠 When they come home, ask: “Did you stay in your seat on the bus today?”

When children hear the same safety message from their parents AND their bus driver, it reinforces just how important that rule really is.

🍎 NO EATING, DRINKING OR CHEWING GUM ON THE BUS

This rule isn’t simply about keeping the bus clean.

It’s about choking.

Think about what a school bus sounds like during a route. Students are talking and laughing. There’s road noise. The driver is watching traffic, mirrors, intersections and everything happening around the bus.

If a child begins choking several rows behind the driver, the driver may not immediately know there’s an emergency.

Those lost seconds can matter.

That’s why we ask students not to eat, drink or chew gum while riding the school bus.

These rules aren’t there because your bus driver wants to be mean or spoil anyone’s fun.

They’re there because we care about your kiddos and want every single one of them to arrive safely. 💛

Parents, please talk about these rules at home. Your support makes a bigger difference than you may realize.

❤️ THANK YOU!

This concludes the Parent Tips portion of our School Bus Safety Series. We have been so pleased to see how many people are reading, sharing and talking about these posts.

Please keep sharing them! The more families we reach, the more people we can educate—and that’s one more way we can work together to keep our kiddos safe.

🎒 NEXT UP: STUDENT SAFETY!

We’ll be talking directly to our young riders about what THEY can do to help make every school bus ride a safe one.
