Learning beyond the classroom! 🚌📚

Our student teachers hit the road for our biannual “How to Plan a Field Trip” experience—exploring both the logistics of planning meaningful trips and the value of real-world learning for students!

Along the way, they toured Virginia Intermediate School, explored a historic Civil War battle site and the Saltworks Park in Saltville, and discovered the incredible exhibits at the Museum of the Middle Appalachians. 🦣🏛️

And, of course, no field trip is complete without lunch! 🌮🎉 We stopped at El Campestre and had the added bonus of celebrating Alyssa’s birthday! 🥳🎂

Field trips bring history, science, culture, and community to life—and give future teachers firsthand experience creating those opportunities for their own students.

And if you haven’t visited the Museum of the Middle Appalachians, you should! It is packed with fascinating exhibits and local history. ❤️📚

These words have greeted students and future educators in Wiley Hall, reminding us that education is ultimately about helping people discover who they are and who they might become.

Today, we remember Dolly Parton not only as an Appalachian icon, but as an extraordinary champion for children and literacy. Through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, her commitment to putting books into the hands of children has helped nurture a love of reading in millions of young learners around the world. 📚❤️

Her music will endure, but so will the countless stories opened, dreams encouraged, and lives changed because she believed every child deserved the opportunity to read, learn, and dream.

This year’s production showed the power of storytelling, music, drama, and creativity in bringing classroom content to life! Our student teachers put a fresh and humorous spin on Paul Revere’s story—exploring what happened beyond the famous midnight ride. 🐎🇺🇸

From Lexington and Concord to Sybil Ludington, the Penobscot Disaster, and a standout performance of “You Ain’t Never Seen a Paul Like Me,” our student teachers demonstrated how the arts can make history engaging, memorable, and fun.

Our E&H student teachers are making learning an adventure! ⛵🗺️🔥

From retracing the journey of the Jamestown colonists to creating treasure maps fit for a classroom of pirates, our student teachers explored creative ways to bring learning to life! 🏴‍☠️📚

They designed and built model ships while exploring buoyancy and stability 🌊⛵ and put their map-making skills to work with a treasure map activity that even included a little fire! 🔥🗺️

We’re excited to celebrate Olivia as she begins her teaching journey as a Pre-Algebra teacher at Marion Middle School! 📚🧮

Olivia is especially happy to be joining a few familiar EHU faces at Marion Middle School—our own alumni Cobain Edwards (Class of 2023), Ryley Sawyer (Class of 2023), Camden Bailey (Class of 2025), and Brandon Alexander (Class of 2025)! 💙

We love seeing our EHU family making their way into classrooms and serving students in our community. We are so proud of you, Olivia, and excited to see all that’s ahead!
