Since it’s customary to honor a retiring ELT board member at their last Expo/Graduation, it can be difficult to surprise them. But I can assure you, this group did just that, and the camera caught it all!
After 20 years at ELT, including 13 years serving on the board, all I can say is how deeply I love this community: these board members, every ELT family, and every single student I have ever taught or helped along the way.
It has truly been a pleasure, an honor, and a privilege to serve in the ways I have, to the best of my ability. So many people are in disbelief that I would actually “retire,” and honestly… they’re probably right. 😊
My plan is to come back next year as a volunteer teacher and facilitate a chemistry lab for the high school students. I think a part of me would be lost without students to love and without the joy of helping them discover more about God’s world.
Thank you, ELT, for being such a meaningful part of my (and my family's) life for the past two decades.❤

Update on the Homeschool Freedom Bill (HB 2187):
The Homeschool Freedom Bill did not make it to committee this session and will not move forward for a vote on the floor of the legislature.
While this is disappointing, we remain committed to advancing homeschool freedoms in Oregon. Lord willing, we plan to submit a different bill in 2026 in a new effort to continue this important work!
In the meantime, there are other bills that require immediate attention from homeschoolers now, including HB 2508 (learn more here: (https://oceanetwork.org/hb-2508/) and additional legislation that OCEANetwork is closely monitoring (see current alerts here: https://oceanetwork.org/current-alerts/).
Please stay engaged and watch for another action alert coming this week. Your prayers and advocacy make a difference! Sign up for our email newsletter to stay up to date. >> https://oceanetwork.org/signup/
