our Mother Durga
i am a q***r witch. my childhood was very suburb socal right wing caucasian. what I want to share with you about our Mother is experiencial. i cannot speak to the cultural nuance and complexities of a temple devotee. what i do know, beyond doubt, is i am Her Daughter.
Mother Durga came to me in the socal of my youth. She came thru while I was teaching sculpture at the Irvine Fine Arts Center. a fellow Sacred Creative shared her with me. a Sacred Creative shows dedication and intention to their Creations. the Sacred Creative holds space for Truth, Beauty and Connection.
Sri Durga is said to be created by Her parents, the Hindu Trinity: Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva. Her conception the progeny of a three way? i like this kid already. this One is special. She was created to slay a demon, only a woman could kill.
the Inaccessible One. the Invincible. Durga. Inaccessible? oooooh. wow. i am female assigned at birth. i have to ask myself if I even know what that feels like? i relate to my body and energy being used, without my concent, since birth. being Inaccessible sounds amazing!
i call, hold space, feed and celebrate being Invincibly Inaccessible. what touches me is only of my choosing. what is in proximity is only for my Highest Good. i am safe and secure in my Knowing. my Creations are my Offerings.
Durga’s Divine Family bestowed upon Her some of their Attributes and Gifts. Mother Durga holds her magical tools in her Many Hands. She is a Cosmic Warrior whose alchemical Grace can transform demonic harm into Sustainable Divinity. picture enemies turning into strong allies. malignancies becoming healthy tissue. fallow ground a thriving garden.
Her festival happens here in the West during autumn, the seventh month of the Hindu calendar, Ashvin. For nine days, One takes time to consider a different, distinct form of the divine feminine. each day a Goddess is honored by offering, a bouquet of words, food, drink, flower, smoke and flame.
and did i mention, She rides a cat? Durga’s animal familiar is a lion or a tiger that she rides into battle. Her Great Cat Vehicle is also a formidable soldier, keeping Her safe and throwing out blows. Maybe I should have led with this information. it was a huge allure for me, as my familiars have found me also in feline form. i love my living room tigers. they are chosen family i adore.
