Today, our scholars were invited to Chattanooga’s Medal of Honor Heritage Center to meet Dwight W. Birdwell, one of only five Cherokee Medal of Honor recipients.

With ancestral roots tracing back to North Georgia and Tennessee, Birdwell’s story connects deeply to our region’s history. His extraordinary bravery during the Vietnam War earned him our nation’s highest military award and serves as a powerful example of courage, sacrifice, and service.

For our scholars, meeting a living Medal of Honor recipient was an opportunity to hear firsthand about courage, perseverance, and character. He continues to inspire future generations to lead with character and purpose!

We are grateful for the invitation and to Mr. Birdwell for sharing his experiences, preserving the legacy of our veterans, and inspiring the next generation of leaders.
