BASIS Independent McLean is a Cognia-accredited private school for age 2 through Grade 12. Students explore subjects like engineering, advanced mathematics, Mandarin, Latin, and fine arts. Our campus is located in Tysons Corner in Northern Virginia, less than 15 miles outside of Washington D.C.

In August, BIM Student Seray Y. ‘36 proudly earned a Third-Place medal at the Potomac Open 2026 Figure Skating Competition!

Earlier this year, she also secured Third Place at the Dogwood 2026 Figure Skating Competition. Balancing academic excellence with rigorous training, Seray continues to excel in figure skating and perform well in other athletic and academic challenges. She is so excited to compete in academic and skating competitions throughout the year!

What an event to kick off the school year and strengthen our community bonds! 🦅

Upper School Community Day featured ziplining, ferry rafting, and many more activities that challenged students' courage, raised their adrenaline, and, most importantly, called for collaboration and peer support to overcome challenges.

Red-Tailed Hawks, welcome to your Houses! Every year, students gather in the Great Hall for one of the most anticipated events of the year—House Sorting! Divided into four elements—Fire, Water, Earth, and Air—these Houses will compete against each other in games and competitions in the months to come.

Today, our new Grade 5 students and new Red-Tailed Hawks drew from the hat to be sorted into their Houses!

The excitement was palpable, and our community was full of energy. We look forward to a great year of teamwork, competition, and fun!

The Red-Tailed Hawks are back! 🦅❤️ Our campus came alive today as students and families joined us for Orientation!

Classrooms reopened their doors, students reconnected with familiar teachers and met new ones, and our newest Red-Tailed Hawks got to know the community through House Leader tours, icebreaker activities, and more!

The excitement was everywhere, and we are ready to turn that energy into an EPIC 2026–2027 school year!

Rest up, Red-Tailed Hawks—we will see you tomorrow for the first day of school!
