I woke up around 1 AM, couldnโt get back to sleep, and finally figuredโฆ I might as well go make something.
So I headed over to the shop, started sketching, fired up the forge, and designed a brand-new everyday carry knife.
The result is the ๐๐ถ๐น๐ฟ๐ผ๐โ๐ ๐๐๐.
I wanted something practical, comfortable in the hand, and sized to actually carry and use. And because forging a brand-new knife in the middle of the night apparently wasnโt enough, I made mine from Damascus and finally used a piece of fossilized mammoth ivory Iโd been saving for a special project.
I filmed the entire build, and now weโre turning it into a ๐ป๐ฒ๐ ๐๐ถ๐น๐ฟ๐ผ๐โ๐ ๐ช๐ผ๐ฟ๐ธ๐๐ต๐ผ๐ฝ ๐ธ๐ป๐ถ๐ณ๐ฒ ๐ฐ๐น๐ฎ๐๐.
This is a step up from our Mini-Series knives. The Kilroyโs EDC is about ๐ต๐ต% ๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ด๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐๐ผ ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ฝ๐ฒ, so youโll be doing a lot more work at the anvil and learning how to control the final profile with the hammer instead of simply grinding it out later.
Itโs a challenge โ but thatโs the point.
Weโll walk you through the entire process, step by step, from forging and heat treatment through grinding, finishing, and handle installation.

Kilroyโs EDC classes are now being added to the schedule at Kilroyโs Workshop. We recommend taking at least one Mini-Series knife class first so youโre comfortable with the basics before jumping into this build.
You can also upgrade your class knife to ๐๐ฎ๐บ๐ฎ๐๐ฐ๐๐ and add a ๐๐๐ฑ๐ฒ๐
๐๐ต๐ฒ๐ฎ๐๐ต if you want to take it up another notch.

The new space is 8,700 square feet, which means far more classes and room for advanced programs as we build it out. Along with air conditioning and indoor plumbing, we're adding a larger press, a power hammer, more grinders, and more welding booths to teach full GMAW, SMAW, FCAW, and GTAW classes.
Not sure what those are? That's what classes are for.

We *THINK* Eli's episode of Forged In Fire is finally going to air!!! He filmed this 4 years ago - all on no sleep for 48 hours. His connecting flight in Denver was canceled due to mechanical problems; he was re-routed in the middle of the night to Atlanta, then to NY, then rushed to the set, mic'd up, and told to GO!
We'll see what he sounds like in his interviews. ;)

He'd never forged even a blacksmith's knife before getting to work on this claymore that is the same length as the one attributed to William Wallace (Braveheart)!
I warned him ahead of time that it would take him quite a while to make this (including the cast bronze guard and pommel), but he was determined. He'd already made himself a bunch of maille, and if he had the patience to do that, I felt confident he'd do well on this too.
