A Great Day at the East McKinney Learning Garden 🌱

Saturday’s Volunteer Work Day was a wonderful opportunity for community engagement, education, and hands-on learning at the East McKinney Learning Garden.

Guests participated in a recycling presentation led by Brenda Arely Cates, Environmental Outreach Coordinator for the City of McKinney, and enjoyed a Strawberry Agua Fresca demonstration by Chef Heather of Hevnly Eats Catering .

The garden also welcomed a beautiful new Tiny Door, created by young artist Livvy Otwell, winner of the Happy Birthday Tiny Doors Design Contest. Special thanks to Visit McKinney TX, Historic Downtown McKinney and Beth Fields Fine Art for helping bring this creative addition to the garden.

Our Kids Garden Club participants spent the morning working and learning in the garden before visiting Hugs Cafe Inc where they delivered a generous harvest of garden-grown herbs, peppers, and cantaloupes.

We are grateful to our volunteers, community partners, and families for their continued support of the East McKinney Learning Garden. 💚

Chef Heather of Hevnly Eats Catering will be sharing a refreshing Strawberry Agua Fresca demonstration! Demonstration guests are welcome—you do NOT have to volunteer or sign up to attend the demonstration.

Volunteers should wear clothes they don’t mind getting dirty, closed-toe shoes, and bring work gloves. We’ll provide water, disposable gloves, tools, supplies, and plenty of gratitude! 💚

Finally! The Sprouts Teaching Pavilion sign is up! Special thanks to Jake Parr and the McKinney High welding class and Johnny Neufeld at Crosslink Powder - couldn’t have turned out better. Good news and bad news at EMLG. The Garden is almost fully planted and is looking great! Harvested 10 gallons of herbs for this week.

And the Bad News. We were robbed. Storage bin was broken into and $3000 of equipment (quickie saw, blower, trimmer, batteries) was taken. Very sad.

Stay tuned for some upcoming classes and Garden events including Garden tour tomorrow at 10:30. Hope to see you there.
