Time blindness is real for kids with ADHD. Theyāre not ignoring the clock⦠they often donāt feel time passing.
Digital clocks only show one moment: the present.
Analog clocks show time moving and where your child stands in relation to the rest of their day.
You canāt expect someone to manage time if they canāt see it.
A few ways to make time more visible and manageable:
⢠Hang analog clocks in high-use spaces
⢠Use visual timers like
⢠Build routines as external anchors for the day
⢠Help them feel time by comparing it to something familiar
(āThis is one episodeā or āabout one songā)
When time becomes something they can see and connect to, everything gets a little easier.
Save this for your daily transitions ā°
We often mistake harshness for discipline⦠but itās not what builds skills or character.
Especially for kids with ADHD.
You can be honest.
You can be direct.
You can hold firm boundaries.
But if it doesnāt feel like youāre on their side, their brain wonāt receive it as help. It will feel like threat.
And when the nervous system feels threatened, kids donāt learn. They defend, shut down, or escalate.
Harshness doesnāt teach better behavior. It teaches disconnection.
Loving firmness does something very different.
It keeps the boundary and the relationship intact.
Youāre allowed to correct, guide, and hold the line.
Just do it in a way that says, āIām with you, not against you.ā
Thatās where real change happens.

Ever wonder why your child can't "listen" during a tantrum? Their thinking brain has literally left the building!
When emotions get too big, your thinking brain (the prefrontal cortex) can go offline, leaving your emotional brain (the amygdala) in charge. This is sometimes called 'flipping your lid'.
But thereās a simple trick to help bring your 'thinking brain' back online: naming your feelings! Recognizing and naming your emotions as they happen activates your thinking brain, helping to calm down the emotional storm.
Give it a try next time you feel overwhelmed, and see how it brings that 'lid' back down. For more ADHD parenting tips and tools, follow pressleyadhdcoaching.com.

Most ADHD brains arenāt motivated by importance, long-term goals, or consequences the way neurotypical brains are.
Thatās not a character flaw. Itās brain wiring.
Based on the work of Dr. William Dodson, motivation for ADHD is driven by P.I.N.C.H:
⨠Play (fun or interest)
š„ Interest (it matters right now)
š Novelty (something new or different)
ā±ļø Challenge (just the right level of difficulty)
ā” Hurry (a sense of urgency)
When you work with the ADHD brain instead of against it, things start to click.
