The first real friendship a child forms is a big deal. The negotiating, the sharing, the “you can be on my team” moments - they seem small, but they are the beginning of how a child learns to navigate the world with other people in it.
At Kids ‘R’ Kids, we believe the social skills developed in those early years are just as important as any academic lesson. Our teachers, who we call Brain Architects, intentionally create opportunities for children to practice the art of friendship - collaboration, empathy, and kindness - every single day.
Happy UN International Day of Friendship. Today is a great day to call your people.

Sponge Sailboats – Creative Crafting Fun! ⛵🌊
Turn a sponge into a sailboat and a bin of water into an ocean. This month’s Smarter Child Magazine shows kids how to build their own mini sailboat using a sponge, construction paper, and a wooden skewer.
Once it’s built, let the experimenting begin. Try different sail shapes and sizes, and see which design helps the boat move fastest across the water.
Explore this month’s issue for the full how-to and more summer craft ideas.

Parents are their child’s first everything - first teacher, first safe place, first audience for every “watch this!” and “I did it!” moment. That relationship is the foundation everything else gets built on. On Parents’ Day, we want to take a moment to recognize the families who choose Kids ‘R’ Kids and trust us to be part of their child’s early years. That partnership means the world to us, and we do not take it lightly. To every parent, guardian, and family member showing up every day - we see you. Happy Parents’ Day.

Layered Jello Snack – Science Meets Summer Fun! 💙
Ever wonder why layered Jello stays separate instead of mixing together? This month’s Smarter Child Magazine turns that question into a kitchen science experiment kids can eat.
Layer blue and red Jello with Cool Whip in between, and let your child discover density, color, and texture in real time. It’s a simple, hands-on way to bring STEAM learning into snack time.
Explore this month’s issue for the full recipe and more summer science ideas.

The first year of a child’s life is unlike any other window in human development. The brain is working overtime - making connections, building memories, learning what it means to be safe, loved, and curious.
That is why the people in the room with your child matter so much. Our teachers, who we call Brain Architects, approach every interaction as an opportunity - because in early childhood, there is no such thing as a small moment. There is only growth.

“Not a Box” – Imagination + Storytelling 📚
What can a cardboard box become? In this month’s featured book, “Not a Box” by Antoinette Portis, a simple box turns into a race car, a mountain, or a rocket ship, anything a child can dream up. It’s a story built entirely around open-ended, imaginative play.
Ask your child what they see when they look at an everyday object. You might be surprised how much storytelling and creativity comes from something as simple as a box.
Explore this month’s issue for more ways to spark imagination at home.

Some days call for lesson plans. Some days call for sprinkles. And some days - the really good ones - call for both. There is a lot of joy packed into summer at Kids ‘R’ Kids, from the themed days that make kids light up when they walk through the door to the educators who know exactly how to turn any moment into a memory worth keeping. That is the kind of education our families experience every single day. Happy National Ice Cream Day from our school family to yours. We hope it is the good kind - the kind with two scoops.

Long before kids learn to say “I’m frustrated” or “I feel nervous,” they are already reading and responding to the emotions around them. The squinting eyes when something is too bright. The big grin when grandma walks in. The pouty lip before a meltdown (you know the one). Emotional literacy - the ability to name and understand feelings - is one of the earliest and most foundational skills our teachers, who we call Brain Architects, nurture in the classroom. And they have been doing it long before anyone invented a shorthand for it. Happy World Emoji Day to all the little ones and parents doing the emotional heavy lifting out there.
