MISD is very happy to announce that DAEP Assistant Principal Dr. Ebonee King has been named principal of Valley Creek Elementary!

The move in leadership at Valley Creek follows the retirement announcement of longtime Valley Creek Principal Megan Richards. King, who has served as assistant principal at DAEP for the past two years, brings a broad range of experience and expertise forged over the course of a 22-year career—including 16 years in MISD.
“We are very excited about Ebonee moving into the principal position at Valley Creek,” said Suzy Woodard, MISD Assistant Principal of Elementary Student Support. “She has a very diverse background in education, having served students in special education, gifted and talented and students with behavior needs. Ebonee is going to be a great addition for Valley Creek.”

MISD is excited to announce that RJE AP Rachel Corbin has been selected to be the new principal of Press Elementary! And, it was just announced that Rachel has been named the TEPSA 2022 National Assistant Principal of the Year for Texas!

Rachel brings 24 years of experience to her new position as principal and has served as Reuben Johnson Elementary's assistant principal for the past 5 years. She has experience in 2 states, 3 districts and five schools, and she has 10 years of administrative experience. The position at Press became available when Principal Rachel Constantinescu announced that she would be leaving to pursue another educational opportunity.
“Rachel is outstanding in every way,” said Suzy Woodard, MISD Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Student Support. “She has a solid background of working with a variety of student and community needs, and doing what is most beneficial for students is at the heart of everything she does. She is an excellent communicator and a tireless problem solver. During her time as assistant principal at Reuben Johnson, Rachel has developed great systems and structures, and she has an exceptional ability to bring data to life to tell the story about a child’s growth. We are very excited to have her as the principal at Press Elementary.”

MISD is happy to announce that Heather Rodriguez has been chosen to serve as the new assistant principal of Wolford Elementary! Heather has 12 years of experience in education, and over the course of her career has served as an elementary classroom teacher in Frisco ISD and Dallas ISD, an instructional materials quality evaluation reviewer for TEA and is currently serving as the coordinator and facilitator of the MISD Reading Academies.
As a classroom teacher, Heather served as a mentor for new classroom teachers, student teachers and student teaching observers and collaborated on curriculum writing and evaluation. In addition, she served on TEA's Science of Teaching Reading Content Advisory Committee.
Now, she joins the administrative team of recently announced Wolford Principal Ashley Williams!
"It is a privilege to serve the Wolford community as assistant principal," Heather said. "Wolford Elementary has a strong history of academic excellence and culture. I am looking forward to bringing my passion for education in partnership with the staff and community to provide the best education for our students."
Heather earned her bachelor's degree in education and political science at Gettysburg College and her master's degree in curriculum and instruction in literacy at the University of Texas at Arlington.

MISD is pleased to announce that Wendy Dutton will be joining the MISD Human Resources Department after 4 years as the professional development coordinator for MISD. She brings 22 years of experience in education to her new role as HR Director for Recruitment and Retention.
Wendy began her career in Garland ISD as an elementary teacher before moving to Evans Middle School as a language arts and AVID teacher. She has been an AVID trainer and mentor since 2007 in various capacities.
In her role as HR Director, Wendy will oversee the district’s First Year teacher program, Mentor and Leadership programs, as well as working with universities, student teachers, and all teachers new to McKinney ISD.
"I am greatly honored to have the opportunity to lead as the Director of HR Recruitment & Retention," Wendy said. "I look forward to recruiting the best teachers for our district and enhancing employees' experiences in my new role."

MISD is excited to announce that, after two years away from McKinney High School, current McKinney ISD Human Resources Director of Recruitment and Retention and former MHS Assistant Principal Shelly Spaulding has been chosen as the new MHS principal!

The move was approved at Tuesday’s meeting of the MISD Board of Trustees and follows the announcement from current MHS Principal Alan Arbabi of his intent to pursue another opportunity in education at the conclusion of the school year.
Spaulding brings 18 years of experience in education and a broad range of expertise to her new position, including five years of administrative leadership at the campus level and two years as an administrator at the district level.
“When I opened Cockrill Middle School in 2008, I stole Shelly from Richardson ISD, and knew I hit the jackpot,” said Dr. Melinda DeFelice, MISD Deputy Superintendent of Secondary Student Support and Human Resources. “I’ve watched her grow from being a teacher to being an instructional coach, assistant principal, a director in human resources, and now principal of McKinney High School. She has proven herself at every level and position, and I cannot wait to see what she accomplishes at MHS. Shelly leads with a happy servant’s heart, and she deserves this position. I could not be more proud.”

MISD is very pleased to announce that Eddins AP Ashley Williams will take on a new leadership role next year as the principal of Wolford Elementary! With a career spanning 14 years in education, Williams brings to the job expertise in special education, gifted and talented and ESL as well as a broad range of experience working with leaders, teachers and students from diverse backgrounds.

Her selection was approved by the MISD Board of Trustees Tuesday night and follows the retirement announcement of longtime Wolford Principal Fran Gratt.
“I am very pleased with Ashley’s selection as Wolford’s new principal,” said Suzy Woodard, MISD Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Student Support. “She has many of the qualities and characteristics that the Wolford staff let me know are important to them, and I feel like Ashley is a great match. Wolford is a fabulous, high-performing school, and I know Ashley is going to respect the traditions and the things that are already in place and working so beautifully there. She is going to be a valued addition to an already amazing team.”

ALPHA Students Featured in Lego Education's SXSW® Video!
This year, McKinney ISD’s ALPHA students at Webb took part in Lego Education’s 10-part Build to Launch STEAM Exploration program, a collaboration between Lego and NASA designed to spark student curiosity and increase engagement in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math).
