💙💛 ONE SCHOOL, MANY STORIES 💙💛
Student Feature: Marcel Boxley
A school is so much more than a building, a name or the colors we wear.
It’s people.
And every student who becomes part of South Allegheny brings something with them — a family, a neighborhood, a history, people who have poured into them, places that helped shape them, and experiences that have made them who they are.
We love that.
Because becoming part of South Allegheny doesn’t mean leaving any of that behind. It means bringing your story with you and allowing it to become another chapter in ours.
That’s what One School, Many Stories is about.
Throughout this series, we’ll introduce you to some of the young people who make South Allegheny special — not simply for what they accomplish in the classroom, on a field or on a stage, but for who they are, where they come from and the stories they carry with them.
And we couldn’t think of a better student to begin with than sophomore Marcel Boxley.
Marcel came to South Allegheny last school year as a freshman and made an immediate impact — not only on the football field, but on the culture of our school.
It’s pretty hard not to like Marcel. That big, warm, infectious smile usually takes care of that within the first minute of meeting him. 😁
But there was something else we noticed during his first year at SA.
Marcel wore a LOT of Duquesne red and black. ❤️🖤 Dukes shirts. Dukes gear. And he wore it proudly.
And you know what? We respected that.
Because Duquesne is part of Marcel’s story. His community matters to him. The people who helped raise him, supported him and gave him shoulders to stand on matter to him. He takes those connections seriously — and so do we.
At South Allegheny, we don’t want students to forget where they came from in order to belong here. We want them to bring those stories with them.
Because their stories add to the South Allegheny story.
These days, we may not see quite as much red and black in Marcel’s wardrobe. 😉 There’s definitely a little more blue and gold mixed in.
But we know he still carries those Duquesne colors in his heart and in his blood.
And somewhere along the way, this kid with the huge smile found another school and another community with a special place for him, too. 💙💛
One young man. Two communities that helped shape him. One story that now belongs to both.
We’re glad part of Marcel Boxley’s story is being written at South Allegheny.
