South Allegheny School District is located 10 miles south of Pittsburgh, PA and serves about 1600 students in grades K-12 in the Boroughs of Glassport, Liberty, Lincoln and Port Vue This page is utilized to provide our parents, students, alumni, and community members with information and to highlight student, staff, and alumni achievements. Please see the following statement from South Allegheny Superintendent Dr. David McDonald regarding an incident that occurred near the conclusion of tonight’s varsity football game at Gladiator Stadium.

Statement from South Allegheny Superintendent Dr. David McDonald

At approximately 10:55 p.m. tonight, during the home football game at Gladiator Stadium between South Allegheny and visiting Elizabeth Forward, a shot was fired.

The suspect, whose address is neither a South Allegheny nor an Elizabeth Forward address, was apprehended within seconds by South Allegheny School Police officers.

The game was immediately declared over. Thankfully, no one was injured.

Both teams were escorted to their respective locker rooms by local police, and all spectators have safely exited the stadium.

We are grateful for the quick response of our South Allegheny School Police officers and the assistance of our local law enforcement partners. The safety of our students, athletes, families, staff and community remains our highest priority.

Additional information will be provided by law enforcement as it becomes available.

💙🛠️A NEW CHAPTER FOR STEEL CENTER… WITH A LITTLE SA HISTORY IN ITS LOGO! 🛠️

Today is the Grand Reopening of Steel Center for Career and Technical Education, and as they celebrate an incredible transformation, there’s a pretty cool piece of South Allegheny history still front and center. 👀🎨

FUN FACT: See that Steel Center logo?
It was designed by an SA student! 💙💛
Back in 2014, Destinee Simmons was a South Allegheny High School student and a three-year Steel Center when she designed a new logo for the career school. Twelve years later, her design is still the face of Steel Center — including on the invitation for today’s Grand Reopening! How cool is that? 👏

💙💛 FROM DEMOLITION… TO INNOVATION!

On July 29, the future home of our new Middle School Maker Space looked like the first photo. 😳 Construction debris, exposed ceilings and a whole lot of imagination required to see what it could become.

Fast forward to today…

🛠️ Students are creating.
💡 Ideas are becoming projects.
⚡ Circuits are lighting up.
🧵 Sewing machines and 3D printers are ready to go.
🙌 And our new Maker Space is already filled with students learning by DOING.

And perhaps the best part is the motto hanging proudly in the room:

“Failure is an option here. If you are not failing, you are not innovating enough.”

Because this is a space where students are encouraged to try. Tinker. Build. Experiment. Make mistakes. Try again. And discover what they can create.

A HUGE shoutout to Mrs. Wachs for the incredible vision behind this space and for turning an idea into an entirely new hands-on learning opportunity for our Middle School students. 👏💙💛

Now that the school year is officially underway, we know there are going to be questions, concerns, confusion, and sometimes, a little frustration when you’re trying to figure out what’s fact, what’s rumor, and what exactly your child meant when they explained it. 😅

Who do I contact about ______?
And about 100 other things that can happen during a school day!
For families who are new to South Allegheny, it can be especially overwhelming trying to learn how everything works.

We want to give our families the opportunity to make connections early in the school year—because there is A LOT happening at South Allegheny this year!
