JCHS Weather Team Jackson County High School will be starting a weather spotter club this year.

Club members will attend a local weather spotter class and work together to report local weather conditions throughout the year via social media.

Some pretty good rotation is showing up with this storm just southeast of Lancaster moving into southern Madison County & northern Rockcastle County. I’m surprised they haven’t issued a tornado warning for it.

🌪️ Tornado Safety Basics - Be Prepared. Stay Safe. Act Fast.

✅ Before a Tornado

🔹 Have a Plan – Know your shelter location.
🔹 Emergency Kit – Include water, food, flashlight, batteries, meds, important papers.
🔹 Stay Alert – Use a weather app 📱 or NOAA radio.
🔹 Warning Signs – Dark skies, greenish tint, loud roar, hail, rotating clouds.

🏠 During a Tornado

🔹 Get to Safety Immediately
• Best: Basement or storm shelter
• If none: Small, windowless interior room on the lowest floor (bathroom tub, closet, pantry)
🔹 Cover Yourself – Use a mattress, blanket, pillows, or helmet
🔹 Stay Away from Windows
🔹 Mobile Homes – Leave for a sturdier building if time allows

🚗 If You’re in a Car or Outside

🚫 Don’t try to outrun a tornado in a vehicle
✅ Find low ground (like a ditch), lie flat, and cover your head
⚠️ Avoid bridges and overpasses

🆘 After the Tornado

🔹 Stay alert for new warnings
🔹 Watch for hazards (downed wires, gas leaks)
🔹 Help others if safe to do so
🔹 Follow local emergency guidance
