Augmentative and Alternative Communication, or AAC, includes the tools and strategies individuals use to communicate when speech alone may not meet their communication needs. This can include picture symbols, communication boards, sign language, and speech generating devices.

At ALCA, many of our students use these AAC strategies and devices throughout their school day to express their wants, needs, thoughts, feelings, and choices. These tools help students participate in classroom activities and connect with others.

During AAC Awareness Month, we celebrate every form of communication and recognize the importance of making sure every student has the opportunity to be heard, understood, and included!

Happy National Custodian Day! Today, we’re giving a big shoutout to our School Custodian, Dave, and our School Services Team Member, Zach, who work hard every day to keep ALCA clean, comfortable, and ready for our students and staff. From the everyday cleanups to the jobs that often go unnoticed, Dave and Zach help make ALCA a welcoming place for everyone. From cuddly bunnies and fluffy sheep to curious goats, a friendly cow, and a llama, our students had a fantastic time with some adorable animal friends! They loved getting up close, petting, and feeding the animals. It’s no surprise that the petting zoo from Zoos Are Us, Inc dba A Zoo To You is one of our students’ favorite internal field trips!

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us last night for our very first Art Show Open House! It was wonderful to see so many families, friends, staff members, community supporters, and guests come through our doors to celebrate the creativity and accomplishments of our students.

Our students and staff put so much time, effort, and heart into their artwork, and having the opportunity to share it with all of you made the evening truly special. We are so proud of each and every artist and grateful to everyone who helped make the event such a success.
