pigs getting the reality tv show they deserve!!
a couple weeks ago Maryland Farm & Harvest came out to film our farm for their next season. i wanted the day to go smoothly, but nature had other plans.
when you work with living systems, it’s basically like let’s make a plan! and then watch that plan get hijacked by mother nature and/or the animals.
part one: roll up to move the cows + sheep, as we do every morning. move goes smoothly, but one sick sheep is laying behind. she dies later that day.
part two: the boars + sows have escaped their paddock and are running amuck.
part three: during a pig move, the huts get stuck in the mud. then the small tractor gets stuck in the mud trying to deal with the huts. then we have to get the big tractor to pull out the small tractor.
great day to have a camera crew following us around.
i’m learning that the chaos is probably more regular than the calm on a farm. you can make the best plan ever, but you’re working with animals, weather, soil, water, death, life, mud… things that do not give af about your plan
