Minisinaakwaang Leadership Academy �MLA is a private K-12 education center that is generously funded by private donation. MLA also enjoys the guidance and support of the Elders Advisory Team

The Academy is supported by their School Board which is comprised of parents and community members.

MLA families, Mary Sue will be reaching out beginning Tuesday, August 18, 2026 to start the enrollment of students for the 2026-2027 school. The first day of classes will be Monday, August 31, 2026 for K-12 classes and the updated calendar for the new year will be distributed at the time of enrollment. Reminder that we will be suppling all necessary supplies, including backpacks to our students. If you know of families who were not previously attending the Academy and would like enrollment papers, reach out to Mary Sue at the Academy 218-768-5303 or cell at 218-429-2862. Miigwech!

Boozhoo! Reminder that our High School Graduation Ceremony is this evening at the Minisinaakwaang Community Center. Seating will begin at 5:00 with Commencement at 5:30. Dinner will follow the ceremony. All are invited to attend as we recognize the accomplishments of the 4 graduates!

A very special congratulations to our Kindergarten Graduate, Zhaawan, Aalayah Rose Wadena. Zhaawan was gifed by a very talented staff member who made beaded mocs, and a new ribbon skirt and her special Aunties Mary and Tammy who beaded her feather and beautiful necklace. We could not be prouder of her and are delighted that she is part of the MLA family. Vincent Niib Merrill spoke for her accomplishments and wishes for a happy, safe and exciting journey on her education road, Miigwech Niib! Aalaya is pictured with her diploma and special family members who travelled a great distance to support her ❤️

Diplomas ordered, senior projects are near completion and our 5 graduates are working diligently to make sure all of their credit requirements will be met! A reminder that the Academy’s High School Graduation ceremony will be at the Minisinaakwang Community Center on Thursday, May 28, 2026. The ceremony will begin at 5:30, but seating will be available starting at 5:00. A meal will follow commencement ceremony and family, friends and community are invited to attend. 🪶

The Academy will be closed on Monday, April 27, 2026 in remembrance of Wewininabi, Arthur Gahbow. Wewininabi was active in the Ceremonial Drum Society as a respected member of many Drums, was a powerful singer whose voice could fill a dancehall, a First Language Speaker and a person who held a vast knowledge of our Tribal Traditions, stories and beliefs. As the elected Chief of the Mille Lacs Band for many years, Art proved his dedication to preserving the inherent rights of Tribal members by setting into motion the historic court case in which the Supreme Court upheld the 1837 Treaty. He worked tirelessly to ensure our Sovertenty as a Tribal Nation was recognized by the US, state and local governments. Art also had the foresight to ensure that the Mille Lacs Band would be sustainable for years to come by introducing the concept of gaming on Tribal lands to help his community prosper both financially and socially. Miigwech for the legacy that you so thoughtfully left for future generations, Wewininabi. The Academy will reopen as usual on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.
