Big things happen when community and education come together! We are officially underway with our Summer Math Academy, a powerful partnership between UC Merced () and McFarland Unified School District () hosted at California State University, Bakersfield ().
This academy is all about breaking down barriers, building confidence, and showing students that math isn’t just a subject—it’s a launchpad for future success in STEM. 🧠✨
Over the next few weeks, our incredible students will dive into advanced problem-solving, experience life on a college campus, and prep for the bright futures ahead of them.

Thanks to all the families who came out for Family Science Night at Kern Avenue Elementary! This event saw students and families working side-by-side on fun and engaging science activities. Events like these are part of how our schools create a welcoming environment where parents can directly participate in their child's learning.

Thanks to all the students and families who participated in McFarland's "Día de la Familia" (Migrant Family Day) on April 18!

The McFarland High School campus was filled with music, dance, and a wonderful sense of community as we hosted approximately 100 of our Migrant Education Program parents and students.

This event celebrated the rich cultures and traditions that make McFarland so special. Live music, plenty of food, and beautiful folkloric dance performances brought smiles to everyone in attendance.

Please join us in thanking Evaristo Trevino, the Migrant Director for the Kern County Superintendent of Schools (KCSOS), whose office was instrumental in bringing this day to life for our families.

Earlier this week, we cut the ribbon on our brand new TK/Kinder building at Kern Avenue Elementary. This new facility replaces an outdated building, providing updated learning space for our youngest learners that meets the latest state standards for size and resources. In addition, this space will allow us to better serve our youngest students with disabilities. By accessing state funding for this project, the District was able to complete this new building without the need for any loans or bonds.

We broke ground on this project back in April 2024 and it is so rewarding to see it come to completion. One thing that makes this project very special is that Kern Avenue Elementary Principal Mayela Bujanda-Medina herself attended Kern Avenue as a student and got to be part of cutting the ribbon on this new building

We look forward to welcoming our Kern Avenue TK and Kinder students to learn here in the fall! As a reminder, you can register your TK or Kinder student now to enroll them for the next school year. For more information, call (661) 458-8202.

It’s National Library Week and we can’t say enough about our amazing school librarians. Our librarians don’t just read to students; they engage them by having them answer questions, think critically about what they read, and seek out their own answers. McFarland Unified’s librarians help support our goals of promoting literacy for all students, sparking a love of learning, and building comprehension, critical thinking, and research skills.

Please join us in congratulating our McFarland High School Indoor Drumline, who recently took first place in their division at the 37th Annual Pep & Pageantry Arts Association of Central California (P.P.A.A.C.C.) Finals!

Our students went head-to-head with more than 1,300 students from schools like Bakersfield High, Centennial, East Bakersfield, Frontier, and Lompoc and completed an undefeated season with this Division Championship.

This program has grown tremendously, not just in numbers but also in skill, under the leadership of Band Director Steve Herrera. We are proud of these Cougars and the hard work and skill they represent!
