All HCS schools and district offices will be closed Thursday, June 18, in observance of – the holiday celebrating the end of slavery in the U.S., also known as Freedom Day – on Friday, June 19.

The Henry County Public Schools Foundation's "Stuff the Bus" donation drive returns July 11. Volunteers at four locations across the county will collect school supplies and other classroom resources. Thank you to everyone who attended last week's HR Recruiting Event and explored the many ways to make a difference in the lives of HCS students. We look forward to welcoming outstanding new talent to our team as we continue building bright futures together!

Henry County Schools is sending 22 students, presenting 10 projects, to the National History Day competition June 14-18 at the University of Maryland. With a total of 71 students from across the state qualifying to compete, HCS has the largest group, by far, of any Georgia school district. We are of the students and teachers who continue to achieve success in this important event. Good luck to you all!

Our June Board of Education meeting opened with a powerful and inspiring performance by Union Grove High School student Cameron Bell, who recited his Young Georgia Authors winning poem, "Free Time." His thoughtful words and outstanding delivery showcased the creativity and talent that make Henry County Schools so special.

We are of recent Woodland High School graduate Patrick Pruitt, who was accepted into 264 colleges and received more than $17 million in scholarship offers – both believed to be national records. Patrick's story is one of dedication, resilience, and adventure. He will continue building his bright future at Knox College in Illinois. Congratulations, Patrick!

Week two of STEM Camp is underway, and our third- through eighth-graders are continuing to study, explore, and have fun with hands-on experiences, including DNA investigations, robotics challenges, computer science activities, and more. We love seeing our students learning, creating, innovating, and staying active during their summer break!
