What a great evening we had this past Thursday at Northwest Elementary! From games, inflatables, and face painting to vendors, concessions, and lots of delicious chili, it was a fun evening bringing our school and community together while remembering Greg Tipton!

A special THANK YOU to our staff, parent volunteers, high school students who helped out, everyone who donated items or prepared chili, and all those who played a part in making this event such a success. We couldn’t do it without you!

🏆 Congratulations to our chili cook-off winners!

* People’s Choice – 1st Place: Heath Tipton
* Judged Competition – 1st Place: Belinda Thomas

Thanks to everyone who came out and helped make our 4th annual cook-off such a great evening! We love our Northwest community! ❤️💙🌶️

From thinking fast to working together, these students are proving that being SMART never goes out of style! 🤓📚

👕 A HUGE Mohawk THANK YOU to TJ’s Shirt Stop in Wheelersburg for sponsoring our Quiz Bowl Team shirts this year! Thanks to your generosity, our team is looking SHARP while showing off their Mohawk pride! ❤️💙

Mrs. Bennington’s third grade class has been exploring biomimicry and discovering how nature inspires inventions and new ideas! 🌿💡

Students sorted, matched, moved, and read about how nature has inspired some pretty cool inventions—like how burs that stick to your clothes inspired Velcro! Along the way, they worked on identifying the main idea and summarizing what they read, all while making some fun connections between reading, science, and the world around them!

We love seeing our Mohawks learning in creative and meaningful ways! ❤️💙

Last week, our Mohawks had the opportunity to learn some important fire safety lessons from local volunteer firefighters and representatives from the Division of Forestry, along with a special visit from Smokey Bear! 🌲 🧯🐻

Students learned about fire prevention, staying safe, and the important work these men and women do to protect our communities. 🚒🔥

A HUGE thank you to our volunteer firefighters, the Division of Forestry, and Smokey Bear for taking time out of their busy schedules to visit our students! We are so thankful for your service to our community and your willingness to share your knowledge with our Mohawks! ❤️💙

🎃 Meet Pumpkin Diesel! 🎃

Ms. Baer’s kindergarten class is bringing the story Pumpkin Jack to life with a fun science experiment!

After reading the book, students carved their very own jack-o’-lantern and gave him the name Pumpkin Diesel! 🚜🎃

Now comes the fun part! Pumpkin Diesel is sealed in his container, where students will watch him slowly decompose over the next several months. They’ll continue observing him through March, hoping to see new pumpkin plants begin to grow! 🌱

What a fun, hands-on way to learn about decomposition, the life cycle of a pumpkin, and how things grow!

We can’t wait to see what happens to Pumpkin Diesel! ❤️💙

📚❤️ Big Readers Helping Little Readers! 💙📚

Something pretty special is happening in our Reading Lab!

Our elementary students have been busy strengthening their decoding skills alongside Mrs. Brown and they have some awesome reading partners joining them! Our Project Mohawk high school students are sitting side-by-side with our young readers, practicing sounds, decoding words, reading together, and building confidence one word at a time. 🥰📖

There’s something powerful about seeing our Mohawks helping Mohawks. ❤️💙 Our younger students get extra practice and encouragement, while our high school students get the opportunity to lead, connect, and make a difference.

Little readers. Big role models. One Mohawk family. ❤️💙

That’s what being ALL IN looks like! 🙌
