🐔🐣Grant Funding Will Expand Hands-On Agricultural Learning

We are excited to share our FFA received a grant to help begin developing a mobile broiler processing trailer to support our poultry program.

Last year, students raised broilers through an initial grant. At the conclusion of the project, the processed birds were donated to a local food pantry. One of the greatest challenges was securing enough time, equipment, and manpower to complete the processing.

This additional grant funding will build upon the program from last year. The goal is to create a mobile unit equipped with modern processing equipment that will make the process safer, more efficient, and better organized-while allowing our students to take a more active role in the experience.

Students will gain a better understanding of the entire process of raising an agricultural product and preparing it for consumers. Along the way, they will learn about:

⭕️ Animal care and nutrition
⭕️ Flock management
⭕️ Processing procedures
⭕️ Food safety and sanitation
⭕️ Responsible handling of food products
⭕️ Problem-solving, teamwork, and agricultural careers

The processing unit will be mobile.

A special thank you to our Northwest Board of Education members and administrators who served lunch to our staff during our back-to-school workday! And a huge thank you to the cafeteria workers for prepping and cleaning up to make it an awesome lunch!

It was a wonderful way to welcome everyone back and show our appreciation for the dedicated employees who make a difference for our students every day.

🚍 Your Northwest School Buses Just Got Even Safer! 🚍

In February, Northwest Local School District was proud to be awarded an $84,000 Ohio School Bus Safety Grant to enhance the safety of our transportation fleet. Today, we’re excited to share that these upgrades have now been completed and will be protecting our students every day.

Thanks to this grant, our buses now feature:

✨ New illuminated “School Bus” signs on the front and rear
💡 Bright LED step lights for safer boarding and exiting
🔦 LED headlights for improved visibility
🪞 Illuminated front crossover mirrors to help drivers better see students around the front of the bus
🛑 Fully illuminated LED stop signs to increase visibility for motorists
📹 Upgraded 12-channel camera systems, including:
• Interior cameras
• Stop arm cameras to capture illegal passings
• Front-facing dash cameras to enhance driver and student safety

Every improvement was made with one goal in mind: keeping our students as safe as possible.

We are grateful to the State of Ohio for investing in school transportation safety and helping districts like ours make meaningful improvements that benefit students, families, bus drivers, and our entire community.

🚌 A reminder to all drivers: When you see a school bus with its red lights flashing and stop arm extended, Ohio law requires you to stop. Your attention and patience help ensure every child gets to and from school safely.

🎉 FREE BREAKFAST & LUNCH FOR ALL NORTHWEST STUDENTS! 🍎🥛

Northwest Local School District is excited to announce that ALL students will receive BREAKFAST and LUNCH at NO CHARGE during the 2026–2027 school year! ❤️💙

Through the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), every student enrolled in Northwest Local School District can receive one nutritious breakfast and one nutritious lunch each school day at no cost — regardless of household income.

Please note: Additional meals, extra items, and à la carte purchases are not included in CEP and may still require payment.

We are excited to provide this opportunity for our students and families as we begin another great school year!

Don’t forget! Latchkey registration for the 2026-2027 school year is still open!

If your family plans to use our NES Latchkey Program before or after school this year, we encourage you to complete your registration as soon as possible. Registering early helps us plan staffing and ensure we’re ready for the first day of school.

Latchkey is available for students in Kindergarten through 5th grade, with morning care from 7:00-8:40 AM and afternoon care from 3:40-5:30 PM. Students have the opportunity to complete homework, participate in educational activities, and enjoy time with friends in a safe, supervised environment.

To register, simply complete the 2026-2027 Latchkey Registration Form linked below. We’ve also included the Latchkey Handbook, which outlines program expectations, procedures, tuition rates, and other helpful information for families.
