Red Oak Elementary Enrichment From September 2024-May 2025 Red Oak Elementary Enrichment met on the Blue Sky Earth School campus just east of McCordsville.

This weekly enrichment class for ages 7-9 was rooted in Waldorf Education. Members have dispersed to focus elsewhere.

The Jataka Tales from the Buddha are a worthy alternative and/or supplement to the Aesop's Fables of the west or the Anansi Tales of West Africa. For this unit, the children heard a tale Week #1, then Week #2 draw and write from their review of the tale of Week #1 and hear a second tale. And so it continues, a new is introduced the week the previous is reviewed and drawn. The process repeats, like dough, folding. As the teacher, I get to read and then retell these tales. Another folding.

One spot left in our Woodpecker Class for children turning 8 or 9 by 6/15/2025. Hours are 10am-3pm. Outdoor recess except in extreme weather. Cost is $540 for the semester which includes all supplies. Each family volunteers for one day as a classroom assistant (12-3:15pm)
Semester dates are; 2/5, 2/12, 2/19, 2/26, 3/5 + 3/12, Spring Break, 4/2, 4/9, 4/16, 4/23, 4/30 + 5/7.
5/14 REHEARSAL DAY An adult will need to be present on campus
FRIDAY 5/16 End-of-year (Seed) Ceremony and Plays

The Woodpecker Class are prepared for our community lantern walk this evening at Blue Sky Earthschool just east of Indianapolis near McCordsville. The children painted the paper with their desk partner, both taking a turn to lead the other in a mirror painting. Then, they measured, poked designs, cut and glued their lanterns, and added a finger knitted handle. We have been looking at practical or 'living' geometry this unit, not only with our painting and lanterns, but also with our sewing afternoons. All things measuring, conceptualizing and making this unit!
We have 2 spaces available in our Woodpecker Class (for children turning 8+9 by 6/15/2025). You can try out with our upcoming Gift Days (12/4 and 12/11) or sign up directly for the Winter/Spring Semester.
