This month’s Former Performer Spotlight is on Emma Kenney!

Emma is a Carol Hammond Children’s Theatre alum who is approaching her senior year at MHS. Her theatre journey began with CHCT productions of *Mary Poppins, JR.* and *Shrek, JR.* before expanding her talents behind the scenes. Emma worked backstage and in the light box for productions including *Elf, JR.*, *The Little Mermaid, JR.*, *Beauty and the Beast, JR.*, and *W***y Wonka, JR.*

After aging out of CHCT and moving on to the high school stage, Emma joined the MHS Drama Club where she performed in *Puffs*, *A Trip to the Moon*, *Radium Girls*, and two consecutive seasons of the *Fall One Act Festival*.

Emma has also been active with the Twin City Opera House acting troupe. She appeared in *Yard Sale Queen*, served as student stage manager for *The Odd Couple: Female Version*, and worked stage crew for *Doublewide Texas* and *A Doublewide Texas Christmas*. She was also part of the crew for the *Cafe Murder Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre*.

When she’s not involved in theatre, Emma is an active member of the MHS Concert and Marching Bands, where she has participated for the past three years. As a senior next year, she will serve as the 2026–2027 Field Commander. Emma is also a soprano in the MHS choir.

In her free time, you can also find Emma working at the Chatterbox Tavern!

Emma is incredibly grateful for the support and encouragement she has received from the community over the years and credits that support for helping shape her into the person she is today.

This month's spotlight on former CHCT actors is Ashtyn Filkins. You may remember her from our very first production of Annie, where Ashtyn played the plucky red-haired orphan. Or maybe it was in Lion King where she took on two roles-that of a butterfly and one of the lioness characters. Perhaps her role as the "practically perfect nanny," Mary Poppins strikes a chord. After graduating from Morgan High School in 2024, Ashtyn continued her academic and volleyball career at the University of Pikeville in Pikeville, Kentucky. While there she was named volleyball "Defender of the Week" in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. She also helped her team make school history in back to back seasons making it to the AAC tournament where the PIkeville Bears won the first round games while also making the deans list! In 2026, Ashtyn decided to return home and is currently attending Ohio University Zanesville Campus where she is pursuing a degree in Elementary Education. She is working at Crooksville Schools in the iLearn program. In her free time, Ashtyn enjoys spending time with her family.
