Interesting take! Some gyms require competing, some don’t. Since we focus more on Jiu Jitsu for self defense, we don’t “require” students to compete, although it is encouraged.

On one hand, we see how sport Jiu Jitsu has evolved from *roots* Jiu Jitsu. On another hand, outside of a self defense scenario, competition is the only place where you are expected to respond with 100 percent effort.

What are your thoughts?

We are celebrating 25 years in business by doing what we do best: teaching martial arts in a safe, clean, family-friendly, modern environment. We are thankful for our Epic family, our local community, and everyone who’s played a part in getting Epic Martial Arts to our 25th anniversary.

If you haven’t trained in a while, we invite you to come knock the rust off! Tonight should be a busy night on the mats!
