Cape Romain Environmental Charter School

Cape Romain Environmental Charter School Cape Romain Environmental Education Charter School (CREECS) is a public school in the SC Public Charter School District serving students in grades K4-8.

CREECS is a public school in the SC Public Charter School District. In our first year (2012-2013), we are serving students in grades K5-5th. Currently we are enrolling grades K5-6th for the 2013-2014 school year and we will continue adding a grade each year thereafter through 8th grade. CREECS does not have traditional attendance lines and any student eligible to attend public school in SC may att

end if space is available. CREECS Students will learn a “love of place” through hands-on participation in an inquiry-based environmental education curriculum grounded in the study of natural resources in the area. This innovative, interdisciplinary, environmentally-based curriculum was purposefully woven together utilizing the constructivism learning approach—where students are actively engaged in thinking, learning, questioning and understanding—to study the various habitats and environmental considerations of the natural resources in their locality.

💗 CREECS Teachers Love Dolly! 💗

We were seeing PINK today at CREECS! 🎀✨ Our teachers wore pink to honor the one and only Dolly Parton and celebrate her incredible heart, kindness, and love of children and literacy. 📚💕

Because, as Dolly reminds us, “You can never get enough books into the hands of enough children.” 📖💗

Just a little extra PINK, a whole lot of LOVE, and plenty of Dolly spirit at CREECS today! 🌸🎶

🐛Another Day of Science in Action!🐛

Our Environmental Education students put the scientific method to work today as they investigated a fun question: Is caterpillar size related to the size of their horns? 🌱🔎

Students made observations, collected data, and tested their ideas to see what the evidence revealed. We love seeing our Terrapins get curious, ask questions, and think like scientists! 🧪🧠💚

The carline crew is melting this week! 🥵

🔬🧪 Science in Action! 🧪🔬

Our 3rd and 4th graders had a blast learning about the Scientific Method through some fun, hands-on experiments! 👩‍🔬👨‍🔬

💧 Our 4th graders investigated how many drops of water a penny can hold—and discovered just how much water surface tension can handle!

🐛 Our 3rd graders tested how far a gummy worm can stretch before it breaks! Talk about a sweet science experiment! 😋

We love seeing our Terrapins ask questions, make predictions, test their ideas, and learn from the results! 🔍✨ Science is so much more fun when you get to experiment!

🛡️🐢 GET TO KNOW OUR SRO: DEPUTY ESTRADA! 🐢🛡️

Please join us in giving a BIG CREECS welcome to our new School Resource Officer, Deputy Re*****on “Remmy” Christian Estrada! We are so excited to have Deputy Estrada as part of our CREECS family and are looking forward to getting to know him better. 💙

Deputy Estrada is originally from Orange, California, and has been in law enforcement for two years. Before becoming an SRO, he worked in pediatrics for four years, where he discovered how much he enjoys being around children. It’s easy to see why he felt called to serve our students! 👮‍♂️

When asked what he enjoys most about being an SRO, Deputy Estrada said he loves hearing the funny stories children come up with. He is most looking forward to having fun with our students, getting to know them, and gaining a good perspective on police officers.

When he’s not working, you might find Deputy Estrada gardening, playing video games, or building and making things. He also enjoys being outdoors and watching scary shows! 🎮🌱👻 He loves Dungeons & Dragons!

Deputy Estrada is also a proud pet parent with two dogs, a cat, a pig named Pork Chop, and three chickens! 🐶🐶🐱🐷🐔🐔🐔

And here’s something you may not know about our new SRO… he doesn’t speak Spanish, he can do bird calls, and he can do backflips! 🤸‍♂️

Most importantly, Deputy Estrada wants our students to know that he loves D&D, playing games, and being outdoors, and one of his favorite things about working with kids is seeing how tough kids really are.

We are so thankful to have Deputy Estrada joining our CREECS family and helping keep our Terrapins safe, supported, and ready to shine! 💙🐢

Welcome to CREECS, Deputy Estrada! We’re so happy you’re here! 👮‍♂️🐢💙

🌊💚 Please join us in welcoming Marybeth Almes to the CREECS family! 💙🐢

We are so excited to introduce Ms. Marybeth, our new 4K Assistant! Born and raised on the Isle of Palms, Marybeth is a proud mom to Ella and Colvin, wife to Jayce, and pet mom to two bloodhounds, Capone and Frank, and two cats, Remy and Rider. 🐶🐱 She loves spending time with her family on the boat or in the woods and is thrilled to begin this new chapter at CREECS!

Marybeth graduated from Wando High School and has been working in childcare since 2017. Most recently, she spent two years as a Child Development Assistant and three years as a Kindergarten Assistant at Sullivan’s Island Elementary. She says she has always loved being around children and watching them learn, grow, and become their own little people—and she can’t wait to get to know our students and families! ❤️

A few fun facts about Marybeth:
🏄‍♀️ She dreamed of becoming a professional surfer when she grew up!
🎄 Christmas is her absolute favorite time of year—and she may start singing Christmas songs before Thanksgiving! 😉
👶 She is looking forward to welcoming baby #3 at the end of September! Congratulations!!!!
🎬 Her favorite movie is Soul Surfer because of its message of perseverance and never giving up.
⚓️ When she retires, she hopes to spend more time relaxing and traveling with her family.

Marybeth says she is most proud of her family and the life they have built together, and we are so excited to have her bring her love for children, warmth, and enthusiasm to our 4K classroom!

Welcome to CREECS, Marybeth! We are so lucky to have you! 💚🐢💙

🌟 Meet Our New School Nurse: Martha Ann McCarley! 🩺💚

We are so excited to welcome Martha Ann McCarley to the CREECS family as our new school nurse! We know our students and families are going to absolutely love getting to know her.

Martha Ann is originally from Sumter, SC, and now calls Georgetown home. She is a proud Clemson University graduate and a diehard Tiger fan! 🐯💜🧡 She brings an incredible wealth of nursing experience to CREECS, having worked as a home health nurse for 10 years and in Transitional Care Management at Tidelands Hospital for nearly another decade. One of her favorite nursing experiences was spending a week as a nurse at Camp Greystone!

Outside of school, Martha Ann loves spending time with her husband, Robert, their four children, Mary Boyd, Jackson, Emily, and Gigi, along with their dog, Hazey, and bunny, Pearl. 🐶🐰 She also enjoys playing mah jong, watching her kids play sports, and—something that might surprise you—she plays on a tennis team and LOVES to compete! 🎾
