Roots students have been diligently working on signs for each of the sections of the forest. With the supervision of teachers, students get to nail and screw boards together before painting them with the names they selected for the kitchen, library, building site, etc. Lastly, the signs are installed with the help of a teacher!

Students have chosen their Forest Animals for the year! They get to choose who they identify with, which animal they hang their backpack under, and where they sit in class. Teachers utilize them in various ways across the year.

When choosing them, this is what some students had to say:
Coyote: “Coyotes howl!”
Osprey: “I love eagles and they fly by my house.”
Snowshoe hare: “They jump like this! I love that.”
Lake trout: “I love that they go under the ice and swim.”

The Aspens and Firs have been spending time trying out the teeter totter, an element in the classroom that not only allows students to work on gross motor skills, but also helps foster relationships.

Many friendships have been forming, especially on the teeter totter, as students navigate the beginning of school and all of the newness that comes with it!

Aspens and Larches have gotten to work in the mud kitchen!

This space in our classroom fosters imagination, social emotional skills, and cooperation with a limited amount of water to mix with dirt each class, and many popular tools. Before long the mud will be out and the snow in as the material used to make forest classroom delicacies!

The wall tent's platform is going up in our new classroom! This effort has taken many volunteers and hours--disassembling the tent and platform in the park, storing it, and putting it all back together.

Thank you to all of the volunteers and their families for helping us out!
