We'd like to invite you to our artist talk next Tues, Nov. 14 from 10 - 11 a.m. at South Texas College Pecan Campus Student Union Ballroom.

Currently, at the library, we have an 8ft, 300lb sculpture of a Great Blue Heron made entirely from discarded plastic trash found on SPI and Boca Chica beach. The artist, Connie Lovell, co-founded the organization Washed Up Texas in Harlingen, TX, and creates these sculptures to raise awareness about our oceans. As of August 2023, she has collected approximately 3,653 pounds of trash from our local beaches that she uses to create these sculptures.

Artists Calder Kamin and Cecilia Sierra will have an art talk at the Weslaco Mid-Valley Campus Library Art Gallery on November 1st from 10:30 - 12:30.

Brownsville-based printmaker Cecilia Sierra is heavily inspired by South Texas' ecology, community, and nostalgia from growing up in a Hispanic household.

As an environmental advocate, Calder Kamin is motivated by nature's endless ability to reuse and adapt.
