SUMMER READING PROGRAMS
1. Barnes & Noble Summer Reading Program
Ages/Grades: Grades 1–6.
How it works: Read any 8 books (from library, home, or store). Fill out the free printable
Reading Journal with your favorite part of each book.
Incentive: Choose one free book from a curated list (values typically $5.99–$14.99) at
a participating Barnes & Noble store.
Dates: Redeem completed journal in July–August 2026.
How to join: Download the journal from the Barnes & Noble website or pick one up in-store.
2. Pizza Hut BOOK IT! (Summer of Stories / Camp BOOK IT!)
Ages: All kids (no strict grade limit).
How it works: Use the free BOOK IT! app to set monthly reading goals and track reading time/streaks for June, July, and August.
Incentive: Earn a free one-topping Personal Pan Pizza for each month you meet your
goal (family limits apply; roughly $6+ value per pizza).
How to join: Download the Pizza Hut BOOK IT! app and register.
3. Chuck E. Cheese Reading Rewards Challenge
Ages: Kids.
How it works: Use their free Reading Rewards Calendar—read every day for two weeks
and get a parent/guardian signature.
Incentive: 10 free play points (redeemable for games; food purchase may be required at some locations).
How to join: Download/print the calendar from chuckecheese.com and redeem at
your local restaurant.
4. Panda Express Read With Me (great for classrooms or individuals)
Ages: Primarily Pre-K–5th grade / ages 5–11.
How it works: Enroll (teachers for classes; individuals may participate via school or direct). Students read 5 books each.
Incentive: Free kids’ meal coupon per student who completes the goal (plus bookmarks).
How to join: Teachers enroll at community.pandaexpress.com/read-with-me; check
with your school or local Panda Express.
5. McAllen Public Library
Ages: All ages, with kid/teen tracks.
McAllen-specific: McAllen Public Library’s Summer Reading Challenge (theme: “Unearth a Story”) runs June 1–July 10, 2026. Register online at mcallenlibrary.beanstack.org or in person. Track reading for prizes and events; completers get invitations to a Finale Party. Kick-off party on June 6. Contact Children’s Department (956-681-3010) for prize details.
