South Texas Capoeira - Mcallen

Share

South Texas Capoeira is a branch of the Capoeira Group: Raça em Moveimento. The group in McAllen is a capoiera awareness group.

Classes are taught by Contramestre Graveto under the supervision of Mestre Efraim Silva. The main academy is located in Brownsville, TX. CM Graveto occasionally organizes trainings, seminars and rodas in the McAllen area. Those events will be posted here on this page. If the interest in Capoeira increases in McAllen, we will once again host an academy locally.

As we celebrate our 10 year anniversary, we plan on hosting several workshops with guest instructors throughout the year. We kick things off next month with none other than my dear friend Mestre Pinga Fogo! We will also have a mini Batizado ceremony at the end for the few students who can not be here in June for our annual event. Workshops are open to all levels and outside groups are welcome. Message us for more info!

About our invited guest:

Guilherme Torres, also known as “Pinga Fogo”, a native of Taubate, Sao Paulo, Brazil started practicing capoeira at the age of 5 in Brazil. Guilherme always knew that he wanted to dedicate his life to capoeira and so he began his career as a Capoeira teacher in 1995.
In December of 2000 he earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education from UNITAU (University of Taubate).
He moved to Connecticut in 2003 where he had the opportunity to perform in wonderful places such as the Museum of the City of New York, YALE University, Mohegan Sun Casino, WTNH channel 8, International Festival of Arts & Ideas and much more. He has been living in Austin,TX since 2013. Mestre Pinga Fogo and Mestre Graveto developed a close friendship starting in 2002 and would work together in Mestre Efraim’s performance company “Ginga Brasileira” and as teaching artists for “Young Audiences of America”
We are super excited to have Mestre Pinga Fogo here with us once again to share his experience and dynamic capoeira game.
