πŸ€ UTRGV Alumnus Esme Isaiah Cano, '21 Brings the Energy to the NBA Finals with the Spurs Hype Squad

From the Rio Grande Valley to one of basketball's biggest stages, UTRGV alumnus Esme Isaiah Cano (B.A. in Theatre '21) is living his dream as a member of the San Antonio Spurs Hype Squad.

As a student at UTRGV, Esme expanded his passion for dance through coursework, research, and mentorship that encouraged him to explore new styles and build confidence as a performer.

"UTRGV created lasting impressions that allowed me to proactively pursue my dreams of dancing," he shared.

Today, Esme is performing in front of thousands of fans during the NBA Finals and proudly representing both UTRGV and the Rio Grande Valley.

"It feels special to represent UTRGV on such a big stage because, like the Valley, UTRGV is growing. Coming from such a small place and being able to represent on such a large scale has been rewarding."

His advice to current Vaqueros:

"Don't be afraid of the nos or failing. Embrace failure by trying as best you can. Love the process of growing and investing in yourself mentally and physically."

Join us in celebrating Esme and all of the ways Vaqueros are making an impact beyond the classroom. 🧑✌️
