District 1 Commissioner Antonio โTonyโ Aguirre, Jr. proclaimed June 8, 2026, as Gustavo Escandon Day
The City of McAllen proudly recognizes Gustavo Escandon, a senior at McAllen Memorial High School, for his exceptional achievements as a student-athlete in powerlifting.
At the 2026 Texas High School Powerlifting Association State Championships in Abilene, Gustavo became the schoolโs first male state champion. Competing in the 198-pound division, he achieved a total lift of 1,735 pounds, including a 675-pound squat, 425-pound bench press, and 635-pound deadlift, and earned Outstanding Deadlifter of the State Meet.
Throughout his career, Gustavo set multiple school records across three weight classes and represented the Mustangs in football and track and field.
His success reflects strong discipline, humility, and leadership, serving as an example of how dedication and perseverance lead to excellence.

Thank you for a year of growing and glowing! We are so appreciative of all the love poured into our children in the 2025-2026 school year!
