District 1 Commissioner Antonio “Tony” Aguirre, Jr. proclaimed June 8, 2026, as Gustavo Escandon Day

The City of McAllen proudly recognizes Gustavo Escandon, a senior at McAllen Memorial High School, for his exceptional achievements as a student-athlete in powerlifting.

At the 2026 Texas High School Powerlifting Association State Championships in Abilene, Gustavo became the school’s first male state champion. Competing in the 198-pound division, he achieved a total lift of 1,735 pounds, including a 675-pound squat, 425-pound bench press, and 635-pound deadlift, and earned Outstanding Deadlifter of the State Meet.

Throughout his career, Gustavo set multiple school records across three weight classes and represented the Mustangs in football and track and field.

His success reflects strong discipline, humility, and leadership, serving as an example of how dedication and perseverance lead to excellence.

Ms. Lynn Webber, congratulations on your retirement! We are so grateful to have been a part of your life. Thank you for your wisdom, advocacy, and passion for deaf and hard of hearing students. We are so blessed to have had you as a strong advocate for our DHH students. Such an honor to know you. Although you will be missed, we are so happy for you! Happy Retirement!!! 🎊🎊🎊
