Choosing Curriculum for the 2023-2024 Homeschool Year

Our first school year was a big adjustment. My children needed to learn how to have their mother as their sole teacher. I needed to learn how to be a mothering teacher and not a classroom teacher and we all needed our expectations of ourselves and of each other to meet somewhere in the middle.
My children learned so much more the more that I let go and the more I learned how they learned and I am best able to teach them. What did they need more or less guidance with?
What I learned most is that we all like The Good and the Beautiful curriculum as a base but supplemental learning and material are absolutely necessary.
I really loved making and purchasing interactive learning sheets and activities that I made on Canva or that I purchased on Etsy. [BriannaLentzShop.Etsy.com ]This was really a big help to make our homeschool experience our own, and not trying to replicate a regular experience at home. We are not an institution, we are learning so much more than what a school can provide.
I am not even including all the life skills and life experiences my children learned throughout the last year. This is something for another article, but my children had days outside, in the woods, fishing, farming, gardening, cooking, exploring, music lessons, gymnastics lessons, team sports, and trips to the zoo and aquariums. All on days most kids are stuck all day inside four walls putting pencil to paper for purposes of institutionalization, not education and critical thinking.
