Categorical CBY year is offered to 13 incoming applicants. research. CA-1 Year: Begin the year in July with daily lectures, which help to solidify your anesthesia knowledge right from the start! Rotations include: Main OR, Pre-op clinic, Post Anesthesia Recovery Room, Chronic Pain Clinic, VA, Neuro, and Ambulatory Surgery. Rotations get somewhat more advanced this year and include: CV, OB, ICU, and Peds. In this year, residents begin taking Trauma and Senior level calls, which include covering Transplants (Lung, Liver, Heart mainly). By the end of this year, the residents' skill sets have improved immensely. CA-3 Year: Last, but certainly not least! Here is where you fine-tune your anesthesia practice. Rotations include: elective months, Liver, ECHO, Main OR, Neuro, Ambulatory Surgery, Regional Anesthesia, and VA. Lecture Series: Residents have weekly lectures (Tuesday for CA-3s, Thursday for CA-1s, Friday for CA-2s), along with weekly Grand Rounds. There are also optional lectures in the morning by Dr. Gustin and Dr. Edelstein, both of whom are Written/Oral Board Examiners. Call Schedule: We have 24 hour calls at Loyola. It varies amongst the residents how many calls are taken a month. Average is 6-7 for CA-1s, 4-6 for CA-2s, and 3-5 for CA-3s. Perks of call are that we get Pre and Post Call Days (Pre-call usually gets out mid-afternoon the day before, post-call resident is out at 7am and doesn't return until the next day!). We match residents into all types of Fellowships in multiple top programs across the nation. Most frequently, our residents go into CV, ICU, Regional, and Chronic pain. Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!
