Program Overview
The Spring 2026 semester marked the inaugural season of the Mayville State Trap Shooting program. Operating as a club sport, the team focused on building structure, establishing practice routines, and introducing students to collegiate-level clay target competition. Despite being a first-year group, the program showed strong early momentum and positioned itself for significant growth.
Roster & Participation
Mayville State fielded three dedicated student-athletes this spring. Each athlete completed the full season of training and weekly practice sessions, helping set the cultural tone for the program’s future.
Looking ahead, early interest suggests the roster could expand to as many as 10 shooters in Fall 2026—more than tripling the team size and giving Mayville State a deeper competitive lineup.
Coaching & Training
Under the leadership of Coach Tommy Moen, the team practiced every Wednesday at the local range. Coach Moen emphasized fundamentals, safety, and steady improvement, giving new shooters the confidence and structure needed to grow quickly.
With a full offseason to recruit, train, and prepare, Recruiting Coordinator James Morowski expects to field multiple competitive shooters next fall as the program transitions to varsity status.
Transition to Varsity Status
One of the most significant milestones for the program is ahead: Mayville State Trap Shooting will officially move from a club sport to a varsity sport beginning in Fall 2026.
This transition brings:
