On Saturday, MCHS FCCLA members enhanced their leadership skills and gave service through participating in the SOAP Project. SOAP stands for Saving Our Adolescence from Prostitution. The SOAP Project shines a light on the fact that everyday activities may be quiet signs of human trafficking. SOAP allows hotel staff and other public businesses to be educated on human trafficking, signs of it, and how we can help stop it.

MCHS FCCLA has taken charge to make SOAP a popular topic of conversation around our area. Students delivered soap bars, makeup wipes, flyers, and further information about human trafficking to hotels across Maysville, Aberdeen, and Morehead.

We’re grateful to Crosspoint Community Church, Maysville Police Department, the Buffalo Trace Children’s Advocacy Center. Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney, Claire Estill-McHugh and the Department of Homeland Security’s Center for Countering Human Trafficking for their support as we continue to shine a light on this epidemic.

And special thanks to Chad Current and Stefanie Burns from CrossPoint community Church for training our chapter members to be advocates. We always appreciate support from community organizations and are grateful to embrace the many opportunities that FCCLA provides our members, community, and chapter.

FCCLA members, Reagan Workman and Sydney Ullery recently hosted a workshop for intermediate school students. The students were taught how to bake cookies from scratch! Our judges picked each group on a factor that stood out from their cookies. They had so much fun and we can’t wait to host them again!!
