One of the hardest things about the last week was missing the region governor’s cup tournament. As the sole coach, I try my very best to always be there, but this time my mind and body crashed. Thankfully I’m on the mend and should make a full recovery.

But holy cow did the team make waves regardless! In QR we lost to Scott Co. in our second bout which knocked us out of qualifying for state. Personally, I believe if it had been best of three we would have got them. Ellen Clark was one place away from qualifying for state in written composition as a freshman, and another 9th grader, Isaiah Carrol, scored one of the highest math scores our team has seen in my time coaching. The future for our team is bright.

The senior duo of Evan Smith and Sam Clarke have officially ended their last QR season, but Evan still has some work to do with testing in science and social studies at the state tournament. You can still catch them competing together this spring on the tennis courts.

The MCHS Academic Team competed in the 10th Region Governor’s Cup competition yesterday in quick recall as well as content assessment. The Royals quick recall team did an amazing job holding their own and almost secured a spot in the state championship!

Evan Smith will be going on to the state championship on March 14th after tying for 5th place in both Science and Social Studies.

If any other high school teams are gearing up for region, this tournament is an excellent chance to take on some of the best teams in the state and prep for region. Mason has participated nearly every year in recent memory and we’ve only ever regretted not attending.
