Air War College The Air War College, founded in 1946, is the foremost center for airpower education and thought - preparing the world's best joint strategic leaders.

Students develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes significant to the profession of arms. The War Department established the Air War College (AWC) in 1946 at then Maxwell Field, Alabama, and the college has operated continuously since then except for a six-month period during the Korean conflict. To accomplish the AWC mission, students demonstrate mastery of dual challenges—academic enhancement

and professional development. To meet these challenges, the college develops the knowledge, skills, and attitudes in its students that are significant to the profession of arms with emphasis on air and space power and its application in joint and multinational warfighting.

Lt. Gen. Daniel Tulley, commander and president of Air University, formally conferred the degree of Master of Strategic Studies upon the AWC Class of 2026 Graduates on May 14, 2026. The education and relationships developed at Air University will continue shaping how graduates lead joint and coalition teams in demanding operational environments.

“Today you are no longer just students of strategy,” Tulley said. “You are its future architects.”
