Creative education in the heart of Acadiana

Our purpose is three fold: To teach to the child’s strengths and help them to compensate for their weaknesses, giving them various strategies to attempt a problem, and finally, giving them individual attention to build their self-esteem. The old saying, “Give a man a fish and you have fed him for a day, but teach him how to fish and he can feed himself for a lifetime”, is basically our goal, which is to prepare students to be independent learners and productive citizens in the real world, and to engage in their cognitive processes with vibrancy and joy.

We create an environment at VBA that kids feel at home in. They come wearing their pjs some days! They bring their favorite stuffies or blankets, snacks and drink - we genuinely care so deeply about how HAPPY they are! The happier they are the easier it is for them to absorb information and learn.

Imagine a peaceful drop off… where your kid wants to come to school. Drop offs are between 745-830 am so there is never any rush.

Imagine at pick up your child runs out to your car to tell you what a wonderful day they just had!

Imagine a school where gardening, farming, writing, art, theater and learning through play is the focus.

Some things are simply too beautiful to outgrow: small creative hands, curious minds, wild imaginations, good books, gardens in bloom, and the extraordinary magic of childhood.

Introducing our 2026–2027 Vermilion Bend Academy Community Tee — a little piece of Louisiana, a celebration of creative education, and a wearable love letter to the place we call home.

Lovingly imagined and designed by our very own PTA mama and extraordinarily talented local artist, Samantha Cruz Johnson Samantha | Visual Artist 🤍 this vintage-inspired treasure celebrates the bayou, the cypress, the golden sun, and the spirit of wonder that animates our academy.

Made from wonderfully soft organic cotton, with a timeless, lived-in charm.

And the most beautiful part?

Every dollar of proceeds supports our students’ garden, farm, and art capstone projects — helping young minds cultivate, create, investigate, and bring beautiful ideas into the world theough our nonprofit educational collective. ✨

Not us 🏀

We believe that school CAN be fun!

We allow our kids to learn through play and excitement! With a huge indoor court, no desks, natural light, art, crafts, animals, farm, garden, weekly activities and cool project, kids actually want to come to school!

If you’re done seeing your child be overly tired from loads of work, aggressive bells and whistles and lack of 1:1 attention, reach out to us. We have a couple spots opening soon and would love to send you some information. We look forward to showing around! ❤️

We blend Montessori principles with Reggio inspired learning to create an environment where children are encouraged to explore, create, question, and think for themselves.

Less sitting still.
More hands-on learning.
Less teaching to the test.

There is something beautiful happening here. 🌿✨

Our days weave together Montessori independence, Reggio-inspired inquiry, hands-on learning, art, gardens, animals, community, and intentional support for emotional well-being and nervous system regulation — because children learn best when they feel safe, known, connected, capable, and wonderfully alive.

We are so grateful to watch this little school continue to grow and thrive — full of laughter, discovery, muddy shoes, big ideas, beautiful friendships, and children becoming more fully themselves every day. 🤍

Something new is growing at Vermilion Bend Academy. 🌱
We are pleased to introduce our new Montessori PreKindergarten Program, a thoughtfully prepared environment where young children can explore, discover, create, and build confidence at their own pace.
Because kindergarten is more than preparing for school.
It’s learning how to wonder, how to choose, how to problem-solve, how to care for others, and, most importantly, how to love learning. 🤍

First week, in our little magical corner of the world. ✨Our river garden haven.

Bare feet. Beautiful books. Paint on the tables. Poetry in the air. Laughter and dancing and new friendships as we grow and create in the atelier and farm.
Wild ideas, serious learning, beautiful friendships—and a childhood that still feels adventurous and free. 🎊

A little Montessori. A little Reggio. A little Waldorf.
A lot of magic.
A lot of intelligence.
A school made intentionally and with a deep mission to illuminate and inspire.

Camp Vermilion, you filled our hearts.

Now we turn the page…

A magical new year is about to begin—with gardens to grow, stories to tell, art to create, friendships to nurture, and wonder waiting around every corner.

Montessori. Waldorf. Reggio. A little Disney. A little Hogwarts. A whole lot of heart.

Thank you to every camper and every family for an unforgettable summer. We can’t wait to welcome our returning friends and meet the new ones joining our year-round community.
