James continues to speak to us about perseverance because it is so important. Don't give up child. I share a picture from a hike we took in the Smokies. They were a lot of rocks to climb over. If I had focused only on that, I would have missed the flowers along the path and eventually the waterfall at the end of the trail.

James 1:12
Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.

If you look at the trial, you'll not see the blessing. If you look at the rocky path only, you'll miss the flowers and the view of the mountain top. Take your eyes off the trials and look at the view ahead. Look at the prize, the mountaintop, which is heaven before you. Do you want temporary comfort or the eternal crown of life? Investing in things here on Earth does not have Heavenly rewards. The easy way out is not always the best. Stand tall under trials with the armor of God. Let the Holy Spirit strengthen and guide you use. Use praise as your weapon - singing praise, declaring praise, defeats the enemy and refreshes your soul. This world is full of trials temptations and pitfalls. It is also a training ground where you can learn more about me and watch my work in your life. Stand strong knowing there is no need to fear because your Heavenly father watches over you.

So many of us love sunflowers. They're beautiful, bright yellow flowers, but at the end of the summer they are gone. I do not want to be a flower that is here today and gone tomorrow. I want my impact to be long after I leave. That only happens by following Jesus

James 1:9-11
9 Believers in humble circumstances ought to take pride in their high position. 10 But the rich should take pride in their humiliation—since they will pass away like a wild flower. 11 For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed. In the same way, the rich will fade away even while they go about their business.

Being wealthy in the world's eyes means nothing in the Kingdom of God. Take heart when your wealth comes from your walk with me, when you're confidence is not in yourself, but in your relationship with me. Be encouraged when you have an eternal view. Those who put their hope, their trust in earthly things will find they fade away. James rightly compared it to the flowers or the grasses. One day they're beautiful, tall, growing and the next they are gone. Your life on Earth is a v***r compared to your eternity in heaven. Where are you putting your time and effort? This does not mean you don't work hard here on Earth, but you work for me. Every job I give you work I want you to work hard realizing it's not about you and your comfort, but about the everlasting Kingdom. Strive for that my child. If you have your focus on me and my gifts, on Jesus and his sacrifice, you will keep you humble in all you do.

The waves crashing on the shore may be beautiful but not a place you want to live. They can be dangerous and treacherous. Today is a reminder to trust when we ask for wisdom. By the way, this picture is from Beulah Beach. If you haven't registered, it is an amazing retreat: Edge of the Water Women's Retreat is still open. Message me if you want more details.

James 1:6-8
6 But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.7 That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.8 Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.

Believe that your Father is faithful. Believe I am good. Believe I am giving. When you ask for wisdom believe I will give it. The small voice in your head that tells you where to go or what to do - the idea that suddenly comes to you -the advice from a friend that aligns with my word. All these are ways I speak my guidance and give you my wisdom. Always go to my word for direction. If the idea aligns with my word is from me, I will never go against my word. I am the same yesterday, today and forever. When you ask- believe that your Father will answer. I long to give you direction. Don't let yourself be frozen into no action. When I give direction to move - do it, follow it. When I tell you to stop or let go- do that. The important thing is this the wisdom and the directions for your life must come from me. Spending time with me will make you sensitive to my voice and my guidance. . Don't let the world toss you around, but let your feet be firmly on the rock of Jesus.

I wish I could say that I come to God more often in all decisions. Today was convicting for me. I get frustrated because I have to decide so many things. It's time for me to just ask him. The path can be well marked and it can be scary. The picture today is of a path that I had no idea where it was going around the bend. I had to trust the maker of the path and the markings laid out. A reminder that we have to trust the God who made our lives.

James 1: 5
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

Think about this- if there was a bank giving out free money and all you had to do was ask would you? Of course! You have at your disposal something more valuable - the wisdom of God, but you don't ask. How many decisions do you make each day without asking for direction? How overwhelmed are you with the questions you have to answer? Each day I want you to come to me for all decisions and I will give you direction. What would your life look like if you even ask me what you should have for dinner? I want every decision. I never get overwhelmed or frustrated when you ask for guidance. True intimacy means you trust me in all decisions. It means you lean on me for the big and small. Ask for wisdom from your Heavenly Father, the maker of all things. I want to give you wisdom. I long to guide you and give you peace. When the road ahead seems long and confusing, come to me. Ask for my guidance, my wisdom. I will never find a reason for you not to come to me. No situation is too great or too small. Remember I took time to create the stars and the tiny ant. I am into the details.

A runner has to put in the work to complete a marathon. So many things in life that can be said of. Most things are not a Sprint but a marathon. Today's picture is my favorite racer after running two races.

James 1:3-4
3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

Perseverance is a rare but beautiful trait. It is the runner who doesn't give up when his legs cramp and the finish line is so far off. It is the mother who prays again for her lost child to find me, even when it seems hopeless. It is the couple that does not give up on their marriage when it would be easier to walk away than solve the problems. Don't give up my child on a dream or vision I place in your heart. It may not look exactly as you expected, but I am working for your good. Don't give up when the enemy comes at you with his fiery arrows. Staying on your Rock knowing your God is bigger than the mountain you need to move. Remember, Heavenly Armies fight for you. Claim my scripture over and over as you stand tall. When you place your hope and trust in me, your faith grows. You are no longer an infant needing milk, but a mature adult learning more and digging into the meat of my word. Remember you lack nothing because your hope and your faith are in Jesus Christ your Lord.

Today we making a study of the book of James. This will be one to four verses at a time. It is a slow detailed study. For those who are just joining, I write a Bible verse in my journal and I ask the Lord what he wants to say to me. I then write what comes out. They are beautiful words from our Father. Almost 2 years ago he asked me to share these words on Facebook with you. I have asked him to use this ministry, however he wishes. I pray you are blessed through these words.

James 1:1-2
1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ,To the twelve tribes scattered among the nations:Greetings.2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds,

This letter was written to the early Jewish Christians who were scattered about the region because of persecution. This young church was opposed by both the government and Jewish leaders. Many were in prison, beaten, or put to death because of their faith. James says to these individuals, and to you, counted Joy when you face trials and persecution. What? Joy, really? This is not a fake smile or artificial happiness that attempts to hide tears, but a real knowledge in your soul that no matter what, my God has me, my God is in control. Your faith is not in circumstances or individuals, but in the God of the universe. When you face trials, pray, listen to the Holy Spirit, and spend time in my word. These disciplines strengthen you and feed your soul. James is a practical letter with teaching on living deeper and growing closer to me. Cling tight to me and my promises. Trials will come, but I am in control. Persecution may come, but you should know who you belong to. Remember in the end your God always wins!

Today we complete the book of Ephesians. I am curious how many of you made it all the way through? How many have you been here through God's Electric Power Company (Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, and Colossians)? Let me know in the comments. Plan to join me tomorrow as we start a new study. ,(I love the picture AI generated for this!)

Ephesians, 6:21-24(NIV)
21 Tychicus, the dear brother and faithful servant in the Lord, will tell you everything, so that you also may know how I am and what I am doing.22 I am sending him to you for this very purpose, that you may know how we are, and that he may encourage you.23 Peace to the brothers and sisters, and love with faith from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.24 Grace to all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with an undying love.

Paul's final greeting is filled with love and encouragement. He speaks of love for Jesus that is undying. How do you reach that level of love, one that continues when there is fear and doubt? Love that is there in darkness and light? You develop this love by remaining consistent. The more you know about Jesus, the deeper your love becomes. When you truly realize how much he loves you- what he did for you- it will fill you with trust, confidence and love Paul sends back encouragement saying, "even though I was beat, faced death, was placed in chains, I am okay because my faith in Jesus is strong. My relationship with my Heavenly Father is secure. Let this thought wash over you. Whatever comes your way, your relationship with Jesus is secure. Notice too Paul desires for his friends, love with faith from God, the Father and Jesus Christ our Lord. Remember you don't have to work or develop enough faith. Faith is a gift given by me. Even your faith in me, comes from me. I love you so much and I never want to be separated from you. Let my love bring you peace, hope, and joy.

I love that Paul is honest. He doesn't just say I'm fine. Lord help me to learn from that.
Tomorrow we will finish the book of Ephesians. We started this book, this journey together on May 26th. I hope you have been blessed as I have been learning from this letter.

Ephesians 6:19-20
19 and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.

I want you to see three things in this passage:
1. The obvious, which is the need to pray for those who teach the word. Pray for the protections of missionaries. Pray for their families. Pray for those who need protection from opposing governments. Pray for those in leadership at your church.
2. Look at Paul's honesty with the church. It is not: " I'm fine. Everything is great. The bed is a little hard but no worries." No he asked for boldness. He asked for the correct words to speak. He points out, "I'm in chains here.' Everyone hearing that knew, that this was a hard place, a terrible situation. There is a need for brothers and sisters in Christ to be honest with each. Share your victories, but share your struggles. If you feel you cannot be honest with your church family, then maybe you need to look within. Are you trying to be something you're not? You should also look at the church. Is honesty and vulnerability allowed- even encouraged? Learn from Paul and ask for prayer.
3. If you look at the entire letter, Paul was first concerned for them, for the church in Ephesus. Then he shared his needs. Be certain this is not just about you, but listen, comfort, and pray for your brothers and sisters.

I love the idea that we don't have to stop and have a lengthy prayer, but we can whisper in our hearts when a person or situation comes to our mind. I also love the idea of praying right there and then. Today's devotional was important to my heart and I hope it ministers to you.
(My picture today is of Andy getting ready to share John 3:16 at a church service he attends with his Adult Day Program. I share it because he may be the one I've prayed the most for in my life. It is a reminder that God is working.)

Ephesians 6:18
praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints

Put on your armor and pray! Pray as a member of God's army. Let the Spirit lead your prayers. Remember he will intercede when you don't know how to pray or what to pray. This verse points out the importance of perseverance in prayer. Don't give up hope when a situation seems hopeless. Don't feel like you are bothering me when you pray for that situation or that person again. I want our relationship to be intimate. I want you to talk with me as with a friend. This is prayer. I know you are hurting and concerned. Let my Spirit guide your prayer. Let me comfort and reassure you. Let my scripture give you hope. I will fight for you. I have told you that my protection and provision are for you. I love you - for you belong to me. Be alert in your prayer when a person or situation comes to mind -pray. Prayers don't have to be wordy or out loud. I hear your heart whisper. Stand strong my child, your father adores you. I will provide for you. I will make a way when there seems to be no way.
