On August 1, 2026, Anger Management of the Upstate officially reached five years in business, achieving a challenging milestone. Launching in the height of the COVID-19 pandemic was no easy feat, but it shaped our resilience. I share this video to highlight where it started and express my gratitude. And it's only the beginning!🙌🏾🎉

Five years ago today, I opened Anger Management of the Upstate. I've experienced every emotion I've helped others through; grief, anger, depression, even celebration. I watched people walk in carrying something that felt impossible and walk out a little taller and lighter. This building has my mother's name on it, Dr. Maude T. Jacobs, and today I feel her in every corner. If you're in the Upstate and you or someone you know is struggling emotionally, with their relationships, send them here. We've been here and we're not planning to go anywhere. Blessed for 5 years but blessed to be a blessing for many years to come.

Tomorrow we celebrate 5 years and I have to take a moment to thank the people who made it possible. To every referral agent, personal referral, the individual who was seeking support, personal supporters who invested time, energy, resources, words of encouragement, I am forever grateful. I would not be here without you. I am filled with gratitude.

In the midst of this week’s celebration, my heart will not allow me to move forward without pausing to honor Kelshun Smith. He was more than a friend, he was a steady supporter, a quiet encourager, and a soul whose presence carried warmth. When I learned of his passing, it shattered me.

As Anger Management of the Upstate celebrates five years, I can’t help but remember that you stood with me at the grand opening smiling, rooting for me, believing in the vision before it had proof. The timing feels painfully ironic.

The number five symbolizes grace, and it is my prayer that God extends that grace to every person who knew him, loved him, and was touched by his life. May we be covered in His peace, held gently in His comfort, and strengthened by the memories that refuse to fade.

After five years of working with people on regulating emotions, here is what I know. Anger almost is never about what it looks like on the surface. It's grief that doesn't know another language. It's fear wearing a mask. It's someone who never learned that they were allowed to have needs. The people who come through these doors aren't "angry people", they're humans who didn't have the tools or were handed tools that stopped working. The mission is to compassionately educate and supportively guide. And why I know it works, is by what I witness from what was captured on my camera. We're 5 years strong and many more to go!

The truth is I felt like I wasn't going to make it through year 2. Running a business during a pandemic is hard enough, but I was also taking care of my mother who was suffering from dementia and colon cancer. Every day I was holding two worlds. Two months after I dedicated the building to her, she passed away. I'm not sharing this for sympathy, but because if you've ever tried to build something while you're grieving, you need to know that it counts. What you build in the dark counts just as much as what you built in the light.
