Some of our members attending "The Cup You Carry" workshop which was hosted by Claire Woeppel, National FFA Central Region Vice President. This workshop let students explore their personal "cup" to discover what truly fills their cups, while teaching them how to pour their energy with intention so they can show up ready to pour into those around them.

Each year, an FFA Chapter can select up to 2 voting delegates for the FFA State Convention. These delegates are responsible for electing the new Illinois FFA State Officers.

Delegates research officer candidate resumes, listen to delegate questioning throughout convention, and attend a special voting session, where they listen to candidate speeches and then vote.

Ike was selected to be a part of the Illinois FFA State Chorus to provide musical performances for the convention. Chorus members receive their music upon arrival Tuesday morning, have their initial performance that same evening, and continue to practice into Wednesday, while providing session music all 3 days. Special thanks to the Illinois Air National Guard for sponsoring the Chorus!

Congratulations Ike, for also being selected as a soloist for “God Bless the USA!”

The convention had additional music provided by a State Band and State Talents. Talents are individuals or small groups which provide auditions for their performances, which can range from solos while playing a guitar to swing dancing on stage.

Pictured members of St. John’s Lutheran FFA spent the past 3 days attending the 98th Annual Illinois FFA State Convention in Springfield, Illinois. The three-day event centered around the theme “Sparking Your Future” and hosted over 8,500 FFA members, advisors, and guests.

Members attended sessions of inspiring and motivating speeches, witnessed FFA members and Chapters from around the state being recognized for incredible achievements, attended workshops, and made new friends.

Liz, Melody, Aspen, Rowdy, William, and Ike all walked across stage, representing the Chapter which was recognized as being a new Chapter this past year.

Last week, members of the St. John’s Lutheran FFA Chapter were honored guests at the June meeting of the Mattoon Exchange Club.

The Exchange Club graciously shared breakfast with our members and welcomed us to share the story of our new chapter. Jamie Jones provided an introduction to our young high school and the formation of our FFA chapter. Chapter representatives Liz and William then presented a recap of our first year as an FFA Chapter, highlighting the experiences, accomplishments, and opportunities our members have enjoyed during our inaugural year.

Following the presentation, club members engaged our students with thoughtful and entertaining questions about FFA and our chapter, creating a wonderful opportunity for conversation and connection.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Mattoon Exchange Club generously presented a donation to support our chapter.

Thank you to the EXCHANGE CLUB of MATTOON IL for inviting us to your meeting, sharing the mission and passion behind your organization, and investing in the future of agriculture, leadership, and service through your support of the St. John’s Lutheran FFA Chapter. Each year, the Illinois State Convention seeks musically gifted agricultural and FFA students to perform during the convention by being part of state chorus, state band, or by sharing individual talents (solos, small bands, dancing, etc.).

This year, St. John's Lutheran FFA Chapter's very own Ike Houck was selected for the Illinois State FFA Chorus. Ike will have the opportunity to showcase his talents, build leadership skills, and inspire convention attendees through musical pieces throughout the convention.

The conclusion of our inaugural year as an FFA Chapter marks a significant milestone, and we were pleased to celebrate this occasion at our first annual FFA Chapter banquet.

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our Advisor, administrators, parents, donors, congregation, and everyone who has supported us throughout our first year. Your support has been instrumental in our success, and we are excited to see what the future holds for us in year 2.
