Sending our 5th graders out in true Manatee style.

06/10/2026

Our thanks to Joyfully Sweet (Brittany Tate) for these adorable cookies to help celebrate our third 5th-grade promotion since we opened in the fall of 2022.

We are so proud of our 5th graders, and we look forward to seeing them do amazing things in middle school.

But remember, once a Manatee, always a Manatee! ๐Ÿ’™

To the core โ€œHelping Handsโ€ crew who show up every week or every other week on Thursday morning, rest assured that we are appreciative for everything you do to support our teachers and their classroom needs.

Like sharpening 200 pencils. โœ๏ธ And counting flyers that need to go home in take-home folders.

Grateful to many other HH volunteers who who supported the program during the school year. We appreciate yโ€™all for swimming together with us.

๐ŸŽ‰ Thanks to the incredible fundraising efforts of our MHES families, the PTA has been able to fund some truly special 5th grade activities to close out the school year, including a trip to Carowinds in May, the 5th grade dance, an upcoming picnic, and promotion ceremony! ๐ŸŽข๐ŸŽˆ๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ•

Thank you for making these moments possible for our 5th graders before they head off to middle school. We are so proud of them!

WE NEED SIX more proctors for TUESDAY, JUNE 2nd.

We can accommodate any mobility concerns. There are some testing spaces that do not require walking around to monitor. Please let me know in the notes if you need this!

We can also accommodate shorter blocks of volunteer time. If you need to leave sooner than 11:45 AM, let me know in the notes and we appreciate any time you are able to give!
If you are a Kindergarten parent or a 5th grade parent and you sign up for at least TWO days to proctor, we will reserve up to 4 seats in the first few rows at your childโ€™s promotion ceremony.

Please sign up and share with anyone who would be able to support!

We are in need of your support! North Carolina requires all test sessions to have a school staff member give the test (a test administrator) and another adult monitor the test (a proctor). A proctor is needed in every classroom that gives a test in order to help the test administrator conduct a fair and uniform test administration. The time needed for proctoring each day is 7:45 (or 8:00 AM)-11:45 AM. The first day of proctoring, you have a short training at 7:45 AM, and then once you have been trained, you can arrive at 8:00 AM.

Proctor Requirements:
Age 18 or older and not a CMS K-12 student
Complete the CMS Volunteer Parent Registration Form at: https://www.cmsvolunteers.com/
Attend proctor training (Conducted each morning of testing sessions-only have to attend once)
Cannot proctor in a classroom if you:
Are related to a student in the classroom or same grade of scheduled test (but can support in other grades-so still sign up)
Are related to or close friends with the test administrator (but can support in other grades-so still sign up)

Below is how many volunteers we need each day in addition to our staff members. (THANK YOU FOR THOSE THAT ARE HELPING THESE NUMBERS DROP BY ALREADY SIGNING UP!):

๐ŸŒฑ Our School Garden is Growing! ๐ŸŒฟ

Take a look at these photos of our garden in action! Recently a wonderful school family generously donated plants to help expand our garden spaces. Because of their kindness and the care from our students and staff, weโ€™re already seeing amazing growth! ๐ŸŒผ

What started as seedlings is quickly turning into a vibrant, thriving space. Our students love getting their hands in the soil and watching their hard work come to life. ๐Ÿ’š

As we head into summer, stay tuned for future volunteer opportunities for families interested in helping water, w**d, and care for the garden. Weโ€™d love to keep it growing strong together!

Credit for all this goes to Ms. Kimberly Krol DeSeve who has been working hard in making this learning environment available and accessible for students.
