Day 3 of CCST Chinese Cultural Immersion Summer Camp: Chinese Opera in Motion!
Today, our campers stepped into the beautiful and expressive world of traditional Chinese opera.
In the morning, children experienced Peking Opera 京剧 through movement, character expression, and stage presence. The girls explored opera-inspired makeup, graceful “opening the door” movements, and traditional seated gestures. The boys practiced flying thirteen sounds飞天十三响, a dynamic Peking Opera movement sequence featuring thirteen crisp rhythmic sounds.
In the afternoon, our art teacher introduced a Sichuan Opera Face-Changing 川剧变脸 inspired project. Campers explored how colors, facial expressions, and character design come together in Chinese theatrical art, then created their own opera face changing artwork.
Through movement, storytelling, performance, and hands-on art, children experienced Chinese culture not only by learning about it, but by stepping into the roles themselves.
We look forward to sharing more at our Friday showcase at 3:00 PM, where campers will present their artwork, performances, and learning journey from the week. ❤️

Day 2 of CCST Chinese Cultural Immersion Summer Camp: Blue-and-White Porcelain 青花瓷
Yesterday, our campers stepped into the elegant world of blue-and-white porcelain, one of the most beloved forms of traditional Chinese art.
In the morning, children learned Chinese words and expressions related to colors, patterns, and objects, such as blue, white, flower patterns, vase, and porcelain. They practiced observing details, describing what they saw, and sharing their ideas like little museum guides.
In the afternoon, campers created their own blue-and-white porcelain-inspired artwork, using lines, flowers, borders, and creative designs to bring this timeless art form to life.
Through language, culture, and hands-on art, our campers continued building confidence while discovering the beauty of Chinese traditions. We are so proud of their creativity and joyful learning! 💙

🌟 Day 1 of CCST Chinese Cultural Immersion Summer Camp was full of stories, creativity, and joyful learning!
Yesterday, our campers began their cultural journey with the story of the Chinese Zodiac. Through storytelling, movement, and role-play, children learned about the twelve zodiac animals and brought the story to life through a fun classroom performance.
In the afternoon, campers explored Nini Dog 泥泥狗, a traditional Chinese folk art form. Using shapes, colors, and imagination, they created their own Nini Dog-inspired artwork while learning about the beauty of Chinese folk traditions.
From listening and speaking Chinese to acting, creating, and sharing, our campers had a wonderful first day connecting with Chinese language and culture in meaningful hands-on ways.
We are so excited for the rest of the week! ❤️

On June 6, Charlotte Chinese Story Time gathered at South County Regional Library for our 2026 Volunteer Service Award Ceremony and Family Potluck.
We celebrated 10 student volunteers who received National Service honors, recognized Nina Chen for her 20 years of community service and lifetime volunteer dedication, and launched our 2026–2027 volunteer year with training, sharing, and family connection.
At CCST, volunteer service is more than collecting hours. It is about growing together, serving our community, sharing culture, and helping children build confidence, leadership, and a heart for others.
Thank you to every volunteer, parent, student, and community supporter who makes CCST possible.
