We are excited to announce Scott Vanloo as our next Varsity Cross Country Head Coach.
Coach Vanloo was most recently an assistant coach with our cross country program and is the distance coach with our track team. Before joining our high school program as an assistant, Coach Vanloo was the Middle School XC and Track Head Coach. Coach Vanloo is also involved in many community running programs!
Coach Vanloo has been a competitive distance runner since 2010, he has completed 58 marathons and 33 ultra marathons, and he has extensive experience in endurance training, racing strategy, athlete development, and long-term performance planning.
When asked about is coaching philosophy, coach said: "My coaching approach centers on athlete development, accountability, team culture, and long-term success. I believe in creating a positive and inclusive environment where athletes of all ability levels can grow, compete, and enjoy the sport. My focus is on helping athletes develop confidence, consistency, leadership skills, and a lifelong appreciation for running." When asked about accomplishments as an assistant in the program, coach said: "During the past year working with the Mattawan High School program, I helped lead a positive culture shift within the girls' program through team-building initiatives, goal setting, athlete recognition programs, and increased athlete engagement. These efforts contributed to improved participation, retention, and overall athlete experience."
We are very excited to welcome Coach Vanloo and wish him the best of luck in his first season this fall!
