🏆 “Teachers Who Inspire” – Game 2 Honorees 🐾⚽️
At today’s home soccer game, boys soccer continued their Bulldog Soccer tradition of recognizing the teachers who have made a lasting impact on their senior student-athletes.
Today, they honored two outstanding educators from the World Language Department!
Senior Dimitri Raposo selected Senhor Steven Bernardo, his Portuguese teacher at ORR. Here’s what Dimitri had to say:
“We have shared many laughs and inside jokes in the classroom. But he has always been an ear for me to talk to through the ups and downs, and sometimes he’s felt more like family than a teacher. He has also taught me many lessons outside of Portuguese, like kindness and respect for all, including myself, along with the little things like how to dress better. If you compared the person I was at the start of high school to now, I would not be nearly the man I am today without him, and for that I will always be grateful.”
Senior Ian Shultz selected Sra. Diana Carreira, his Spanish teacher for the past three years. Here’s what Ian had to say:
“I have never found it easy to learn Spanish, and Sra. has heard me mispronounce so many different words in her classroom over the course of our time together that we have lost count. Yet she has never treated me, or any of her students who struggle or make mistakes, poorly for those mistakes. She remains patient with each of us regardless of how many times we get it right or wrong, and I can’t describe how grateful I am for that. Her classes are always enjoyable, and she consistently comes in with a smile on her face. That attitude is contagious and spreads throughout the room. Both her patience and her positivity are characteristics that stem from being a kind person.”
Thank you, Senhor Bernardo and Sra. Carreira, for showing our students that teaching is about so much more than academics. Your kindness, patience, humor, and genuine care have made a lasting difference in the lives of these young men and countless other Bulldogs.
What a wonderful reminder of the impact great educators have on our students, both inside and outside the classroom!
