This footage, captured through a Seek FirePRO 300, shows exactly how a thermal imaging camera can be used as more than just a tool for locating fire.

The captain is monitoring the crew’s advance, evaluating the thermal environment, watching the effects of water application, and using real time visual clues to determine whether the fire attack is making progress.

A TIC can provide another layer of information to help officers make better fireground decisions when they understand what they are seeing and, just as importantly, what the camera cannot tell them.

A huge THANK YOU to the Hillsborough Fire Department for giving Fire Training & Consultants, LLC the opportunity to train their entire department over the last three weekends.

Today, we wrapped up our final session with a phenomenal discussion focused on putting their new Seek Thermal FirePRO 300s into service, along with fire dynamics, fire behavior, and how thermal imaging can support better decision making on the fireground.

Hillsborough didn’t just purchase new technology and put it on the apparatus. They invested in training their members to understand how to use it, what it can tell them, and just as importantly, what it can’t.

A thermal imaging camera is more than a tool for seeing through smoke. When properly understood and applied, it can enhance situational awareness, fire behavior recognition, size up, and tactical decision making.

Thank you again to everyone at Hillsborough FD for three great weekends of training, discussion, and hands on learning. It was a privilege working with your members.
