Today we presented Understanding Fire Dynamics: Ensuring Safety During Hostile Fire Events in Bergen County through the Kean Fire Safety program.

Thank you to Kean Fire Safety Training | New Jersey for the opportunity, and to everyone who joined us. Understanding fire behavior helps us recognize changing conditions, anticipate hostile fire events, and make informed decisions on the fireground.

Train Smart. Be Humble. Stay Safe.

Thank you to the Cumberland County Fire/EMS Chiefs and Officers Association for the opportunity to present Fireground Risk Management: How Officers and ISOs Keep Aggressive Operations Survivable.

We appreciate everyone who joined us last night to talk about recognizing hazards, making informed decisions, and keeping our members safe while getting the job done. Thank you for investing your time in training and giving us the opportunity to share this program.

On October 1, we partnered with the NJ State FMBA again at the Union County Fire Academy for a great night of training with firefighters from across the state.

We started in the classroom before putting it all together under live fire conditions, exploring camera modes, practical applications, and the limitations of thermal imaging. An opportunity to build confidence with the cameras and better understand what they’re showing us.

Thank you to the NJ FMBA for continuing to support these training opportunities and to the Union County Fire Academy and its instructors for supporting the live burn operations. A big thank you to everyone who came ready to learn, ask questions, and put in the work!

We put the Seek Thermal AttackPRO 300 through the test of live fire! 🔥

We had the opportunity to use this camera before its release, putting it to work during multiple live fire trainings to explore its capabilities. From image clarity and smooth scanning to the detail visible in hotter and cooler areas, we’ve been impressed.

The Eagle Core sensor, 60 Hz frame rate, wide 57 degree field of view, and Mixed Gain Technology give us plenty to work with. Survey Mode adds another option for size up and overhaul, while onboard recording lets us bring these training moments back into the classroom.

Watch the footage. There’s a lot to learn from the thermal layering, convection, and changing conditions captured during these burns.

Understanding your camera and training with it is what makes the technology valuable.

🔥 Respect the fire. Understand its behavior.

Thermal layering, heat movement, and changing smoke conditions are all part of understanding the environment we operate in. Training helps us connect those concepts to what we see and recognize how conditions can change around us.

Keep studying. Keep asking questions. Keep building your understanding of fire behavior.

We’re also very lucky to have friends at the Academy who take such awesome photos, capturing these moments and helping us share the importance of training. Thank you for the incredible shots! 📸

A great day of training with the Montclair Fire Department! 🔥

FT&C delivered From Size Up to Overhaul: Thermal Imaging for Fireground Operations, with members of the Bloomfield Fire Department joining us for the day.

The class included in service training on Montclair’s Seek FirePRO 300 cameras, helping members better understand their equipment, its capabilities and limitations, and how to apply it throughout fireground operations. Hands on training with the Palmer dollhouse connected the thermal image on the screen to the conditions unfolding in front of them.

Thank you to Montclair for hosting and to everyone who came ready to learn and put their cameras to work!

Yesterday, Chief Danny Arroyo presented Train Smart: A Framework for Safer, More Effective Fire Training for Kean Fire Safety at the Mercer County Fire Academy.

This class gives fire service instructors and officers a practical framework for planning, delivering, and evaluating training. From setting clear objectives and identifying risks to assigning instructor roles, maintaining accountability, and preparing for emergencies, TRAIN SMART helps turn a drill idea into a purposeful training plan. The program also emphasizes knowing when to stop, reassess, and use an after action review to improve the next drill.

The goal is simple: realistic, meaningful training that builds confidence and competence while keeping firefighter safety at the center.

Thank you to Kean Fire Safety Training | New Jersey for the opportunity to bring this program to Mercer County, and to everyone who took the time to attend!

What a great Monday night training with the River Edge Fire Department! 🔥

Chief Arroyo presented Understanding Fire Dynamics, followed by a brief thermal imaging camera overview, bringing the lessons together with a Palmer dollhouse burn.

We’ve had a lot of questions about the dollhouse, and its value goes beyond fire behavior demonstrations. It’s also a great tool for thermal imaging training, tactical discussions, and helping firefighters better understand how fire behaves within compartments. There’s a lot to learn from a small prop!

What stood out just as much was the outstanding training culture shared by River Edge and its neighboring departments. Firefighters from River Edge, Oradell, New Milford, Saddle Brook, and Dumont showed up ready to learn, ask questions, and work together. Training alongside the departments you respond with is what it’s all about.

Thank you for welcoming FT&C and giving us the opportunity to be part of your training night!
